As a local SAIX-based ADSL subscriber... When it comes to logging into international forums, I am most likely to get "logged out", or not able to log-in unless I'm using some kind of proxy in my browser settings.

Can anyone explain why this happens? I basically have to turn on a proxy to be able to use register and log-in to international sites, but it's vica-versa for local sites?

When enabling a proxy, local OsCommerce based web sites doesn't want to stay logged in.

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

For SAIX proxies for the international forums, you can try some of the ones listed in this thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=94323

(I think this is why you sometimes need a proxy...) When no proxy is specified, the SAIX transparent proxy may change while you are online, changing the (proxy) IP from which you are accessing the forum. Some forums/websites do not like this so they kick you off if it happens. Thus defining a set SAIX proxy server prevents the proxy IP changing mid-session.

The local site confuses me though  What proxy (IE a SAIX proxy or a local open proxy) are you using for the local site ?

A lot of logging technology these days gets angsty if your IP suddenly changes mid-session, which is what it looks like to external observers of South Africa's WAN when your proxy randomly changes. (Which it's wont to do if you don't specify one.)

Why would you want or need to specify a proxy? Is this related to SA and splitting local and international traffic?
