I have 2 problems with my adsl. I dont know all the terminology so thats why I want to explain in layman's terms what it is.
My setup is as follows:
I have my telkom line as a adsl line, with axxess as my international and local bandwidth, which I the use with Routesentry. Then the modem is a telkom Marconi one, set it bridged mode.

Problem one:

Almost every evening when I browse, the "dsl-link" light on the router goes off. The after a while, sometimes a minute, sometimes longer, it starts flashing again, sometimes it goes off again, and sometimes it stays on. Then the same happen later on, maybe 2 or 3 minutes later, sometimes more than that.
What is the problem here, and what do I say to a technician if I must explain it over the phone?

Problem two:

When the adsl link to telkom is good, I also get a lot of disconnects from my isp, local account and international. Both is prepaid accounts. It disconnects, and immediately thereafter it gets connected again, cause Routesentry dial it automatically. Is it just a normal thing, or can I complain at axxess, and will it help to complain?

Thanks a lot.

Sounds like Sync issues to me.

Maybe post your router log & line stats here.

I found the log, but its a lot. How do I post that with that scrolling thing on the right hand side?

Okay lets try:

You seem to be very close to the exchange looking at your attenuation (about 730m or so). SNR is also good.

Have you tried disconnecting all telephone instruments as well as the ADSL filters and connect your router/modem directly to the line?

What router do you have, rrand&model?

remove EVERY telephone, fax machine & filter...disconnect alarm systems ect....run directly from eskom power and try another direct rj11 cable.

if above doesn't help , try another router and from there its a 99.9% certain line problem....where exactly , i dunno but its not in your house!

It could be in his house. I had internal wiring issues once, bad crimps.

Yeah I am pretty close. Didn't disconnect the phone and filter yet, but will now. It wasn't in use, or never is when this DSL Link light goes off, I checked that when it happened a few times. I have a Telkom Marconi, dont see the model, only see this: TA2004/544

I will run it directly through eskom, not even through the Lightning protector? I did have another router, Mecer, and it was the same.

Then the problem must be from the telkom line to the router. Cause power isn't the problem, all the other lights work when this happens. And the link between the laptop and router is good too. I never had a disconnection when I used the phone. But I'm thinking now, when this happens I must see on that very moment if I can use the phone. If I can, the line is not the problem then?

I've seen that faulty filters , damaged surge protectors + phones/faxes can all have an impact on the stability of ADSL...remove EVERYTHING

+1

If the problem still persists call Telkom and ask them to move you to another port on the DSLAM for starters and if still no go then have them check your line.

Okay so I didn't have the chance to let it check before I went to Cape Town, but when I got back I had problems from day one. I was at hope just one day, and it was off and on the whole day. Still the same problem.
So while it was like that I phoned telkom, and they said they will test the line on their side.
Then they logged the fault when they saw there's a problem. The guy said something that he dont get a response from the modem, or something like that, cant remember his exact words.
So today I got a call, and the techie said he must check something inside my house, cause he checked every thing on their side, and everything is good. I'm not at home now, so I told him to come monday while I'm there.

So what can be wrong on my side? I had 2 modems, both the same, I connected the modem directly to the wall, and not through anything, removed filters. And still it is the same. The thing is it is not off the whole time, and I know that when the techie come, all will be good. So before he come, what can I check else when I get home?
