Since about the beginning of the month Ive been having speed and connection issues with my ADSL, I first noticed it when i tried downloading updates to my PS3. I have to get a 2060mb download for nfs most wanted, and a few times in a row it would get to 60% or even 94% once, then my PS3 disconeected from the internet. Then I tried a few days later and then it said it will take 1255minutes to download the 2gb update. Since then Ive restored, formatted my PS3 and phoned their tech support who told me its my line thats super slow. Then I called Telkom who went through the process of telling me to switch off my router for 2 minutes etc. to tell me my line is fine. I replaced my router, called telkom again who said they'll log the fault and report back to me, thats now more than a week ago. Then 2 days ago i heard from a friend who work at media24 tech department that apparently the undersea cable got dammaged by a ship thats why internet been so bad last few 3 weeks. Do anyone else know anything about this?

Also if my router says my line upspeed is 2mb but a speedtest result shows this : Test conducted on 13 April 2013 11:14:12 AM

Download Speed: 225 kbps (28.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 388 kbps (48.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 301 ms

Do the router pick up the real line speed or just what its supposed to be? Can it be my telkom internet account thats causing this trouble, like if I must get prepaid adsl voucher from axxess will that maybe run quicker?

Its Telkom dude. When I switch to my afrihost account i dont have issues.

Your Speedtest does indicate that you upload speed is par with a 2Mbps or beter line. Down speed is not grt. Latency is bad. Was that local or international?

Wonderboy, post a trace route. That might give some insight. Post it here and some of the more knowledgeable crowd might give you advice.
If you do not know the steps:
Click on "Start"
Go to the "Run" command bar and type: cmd
then type the following tracert capetown.spdtst.saix.net or tracert rosebank.spdtst.saix.net or tracert durban.spdtst.saix.net, depending which is closest to you.
This is a local test.

You can also do a Intl test:
tracert 8.8.8.8

You can also do a speedtest, just look at the top right menu on any screen here on Mybb.
Also go to www.pingtest.net and do the ping test

It sounds like Telkom is your ISP. To try and help determine if the problem lies with Telkom ISP or rather with Telkom infrastructure or even on your pc or your router, etc go to Afrihost and sign up for the 1GB free for life offer. You do not pay for it and try and use Afrihost as your ISP for at least an hour or so. If you get full speeds or considerable better speeds with the Afrihost account or any other ISP that might give you a free trial account, your problem could lie at Telkom as ISP. If not, Telkom ISP is probably not at fault, but some avenues have to be explored, like exchange congestion, noise on your line, malware on your pc, incorrect data package, etc.

I think im having the same issue with the PS3, although im mweb the files download but they are corrupted and fail installation.

Your speeds are horrible thats for sure.

And your query on the undersea cable,

NB: Telkom = ESSAy (Offline, routed through WACS) i think
MWEB = SEACOM (Offline, routed through WACS)
IS/PLUG = WACS (online)
Afrihost = SEACOM (Offline, routed through WACS)

Rickter have you tried with another account? If i have problems with speed etc, I occasionally pop in my AH details directly in to the PS3.

I sent the Plugg rep a message asking for a capped once off account.

Still waiting for a reply.

Sorry about derailing the thread a bit Wonderboy, but in regards to the PS3 issue.
I have a stable line in general. I tried to dl update 105 this morning via my pc and I disconnected 3 times.
I think it might be a PSN server issue.
I know there will be a PSN maintenance from Monday afternoon (16:00 till Tuesday morning 07:00).

Maybe try after the scheduled maintenance?
