ADSL Usage Application

cap = 6000 MB, used = 10MB, remaining = 1989.
6000 - 10 = 1989 ?

Do you not understand the meaning of the word offset? Are you not familiar with the exceptionally difficult art of rounding a number up or down? Perhaps you remember this from Sub A/Grade 1?

I think someone else missed Grade 1 completely

6000 - 10 = 5990

So a rounding error might give 5989, definitely not 1989!

What happen to the other 4001

Wow

People people people... Relax :D

First off if you're not even going to bother to download it, why comment on the matter? Secondly if you did download it and you find a problem, report it so that he can fix it! Thirdly if you find it usefull, say thanks and tell the rest of the people on here that are so ungratefull that it's not a Trojan :P

Fourthly if you just want more posts, look at this post, it's indeed a fine template to work of ;)

Firstly - rounding is not an error - it's used on purpose. So no to your very intellectual response of "So a rounding error might give 5989, definitely not 1989!"

The statistics that has got everyone's knickers in a knot is out by 4GB for a perfectly logical reason which I will try and explain:

My account with Sainet is new and as I started 3/4 into the month my available bandwidth was only 2GB as it was pro rata'd.

I get the Data Cap value from a string: ADSL-6GB-CAPPED.

I have uploaded a new screenshot for the purists out there showing my Cybersmart stats.

So no to your very intellectual response

Yes, I know exactly what rounding is and the purpose for it, but when the rest of the maths don't work out, that is an error.

As an "intellectual" it is my duty to see to it that such things are used in the correct way :p

And the new screenshot is much better, no confusion :)

Rather take the remarks as positive criticism, that first screenshot was confusing as 4GB was missing and not everyone is going to read through this thread to see why there is a discrepancy. My first reaction to seeing it was this program will be crap cause it can't even calculate the values correctly, never mind if there is a logical explanation or not. In the end it is all about good marketing, and your first screenshot was not doing that. If an "advert" needs to be explained to someone, then it is not a good advert.

Choppie, In the face of your highly abrasive and attacking demeanor who will the [un]lucky users of your application have to deal with in the [un]likely event of there being errors in the coding, or*[assumptions* on ISP pages being correct?

Will these people be afforded to be dealt with in a non-aggressive, unlike your marketing in this threa[d/t]?

Hoping you get it all right

spacebar: If you read the previous posts from the start you will notice that I was being attacked and accused of trying to unleash a trojan on other forum members.

I am more than willing to fix any bugs and add other ISP's.

I'm very saddened by the attitude of this ungreatful bunch. It seems as though most people here are more interested in showing off their knowledge (or lack thereof) than being helpful towards visitors and new members like myself.

Anyway I'm done with this thread. Thanks to the 413 people who have downloaded the app so far. Hope you find it useful. Mail me with any bugs or improvements.

If you plan on starting at your engine the whole day, popping the hood is fine. Most people care about what it does more than how it does it... anyway...

Varktjop - It's giving me an error on Cybersmart - '' is not a floating point value - or somesuch. I've got a oneprice account with the nightrider option - which might break your code a bit. I think your parsing needs a bit of work :)

Adding support for Web-Africa prepaid would also be nice...

For the die hard linux fan from earlier in the thread that made the very naive car analogy: the only reason linux is as popular as it is today is because it's free and opensource. And even though it's free and opensource, it's market share compared to MS is ?? - Nothing. You can't even compare the two.

The only comparison that could possibly be made is between servers running IIS and Apache. But this comparison has nothing to do with Workstations.

My point was simply that WinXP/Vista is currently the best Workstation OS. This is not just my opinion, but also the opinion of many others that the market share statistics comprise of.

If we gonna talk about the best workstation os, then try Mac OSX... nothing touches it!

who uses linux for a workstation? It's an abomination.

Its not that bad, but I suppose you are a vista zealot. Having given up on windows about 8 years ago I have used a Linux desktop for for pretty much everything. Somethings are a fight, but usually I can do what ever I ever needed to do with Linux. I started using OSX about a year ago and I cannot honestly believe why people would continue to use windows. Vista is sooo bad - it has actually made XP look good. OSX is now my OS of choice for the desktop and everyone that I have tempted into using it won't go back to windbloze....

Mac is just eye-candy and way too overpriced.

At the end of the day it boils down to personal preference. Mac's market share is only 6%. Windows is 93% and linux .5%

Mac has such a small market share, as does Linux, but Mac is VERY expensive... but then again, Mac hardware is very specific and you don't have 1000s of vendors building cheap backyard hardware that never works.

You get what you pay for... I have a 1.6GHz Mac G4 that out performs my P4 2.8GHz.

Think of Mac as the Lamborgini of computers.... Linux as the cutomized hotrods.... and Windows as a stock standard Chevy Spark that drives like crap and will crash so hard you'll probably die.

My Linux box hardly crashes, and when it does it means either I did something wrong or something is broken in my hardware (last time it was my Motherboard).

My Mac Box never crashes... seriously... NEVER!

I haven't used Windows since XP came out... I almost can't remember what that blue screen of death looks like?

Pimp your PC... get ubuntu!
