Hi folks

I have 2 ADSL connections, one at home, one at the office.
I would like to set up a VPN sothat I can access one PC's drive via a mapped drive from the other PC.

Questions :

1. Will the connection eat up my cap, or will it only use data transferred between the 2 pc's

2. How do I start, anyone got a HOWTO for me to read?

3. Can I use my existing routers (SMC and Telkom 100), or is there such a thing as a VPN router (more expense!!!???)

Thanx

1. A VPN Typically only sends and recieves data when requested, so except for the odd keep-alive packet, it won't use much data.
2. You'll need a dynamic DNS service for a start, and some software to facilitate the VPN.
3. I wouldn't recommend even trying to use the VPN features of those routers, Telkom routers have horrible interfaces and SMC are not much better.

A Mikrotik router would be ideal if you're willing to spend some money and learn a bit of networking.

The best HOWTO would be google ;)

Mikrotik would be better to use. Put one both sides, and you can create a permanent tunnel between the 2 units. Only downtime would be for a little while when your IP addresses change.
