Give this a shot : http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ spyware, adaware etc.

I agree with Highflyer_GP. To test your account, perhaps stay connected for 3-5 hours as you usually do but dont do any browsing/downloading of any kind, just let it idle. I stay connected 24/7, dont shutdown my pc at all and I dont use anything close to 50mb a day. I dont have any firewall enabled. Only got service pack2 and a bandwidth monitor for me wireless connection and one for me dsl connection.

With regards to ctrl+alt+delete, be careful, you dont want to be ending any process that needs to run.

Yeah Service Pack 2 is a must, if you don't have it then download it and save it onto CD or something - you might need it later if you need to reformat and stuff.

Yeah could definately be malware of some kind. I generally keep my system in shape and updated so things like that tend to slip my mind due to my preventitve measures. Haven't had any malware or virus issues in a long time. Also got SP2 installed with most of the important MS security fixes.

I have what I believe is quite an effective and powerfull solution against things like this. I use AVG and Zonealarm and if something that I don't know about tries to use the internet I can easily block it with ZoneAlarm. This has worked well for a very long time and I'm very happy with it, so I would definatly recommend something like this if you don't have anti-virus and a firewall in place.

Well basically, from the time of the last post at 11:48pm till now, 04:40. It says i have used 0.250 gigs. I have only browsed tonight. I just checked my account and it looks as if i am seconds away from being capped. How crap is that. I am cancelling my CYBERSMART, i think they suck.

It has nothing to do with your ISP. Cancelling with them and signing up with someone else is simply going to transfer your problem. The problem is on yourside not theirs.

I use NetMeter to see what apps are using bandwidth. What are you using RAM?

Ram, get netlimiter, it will show you every process that is making an outgoing connection, shows their upload and download speeds and you are able to see how much data each has transferred.

It may help you account for arb processes such as spyware...

Definetly gotta be some form of malware or spyware

A few weeks ago when i couldnt get my Email to work i phoned Telkom. Some bright spark there told me to turn off my firewall  !
As SOON as i closed it down i connection started just uploadin and i was bombarded with porn ads, marketing schemes.etc.This all chew bandwidth like mad.Like some1 said dont blame your isp - it aint them.GET A FIREWALL  I use Sygate Personal Firewall Pro and must say its awesome. It tells you when people are trying to upload off you and you can simply block them.I dont even have SP2 installed and im safe with Sygate.Running on the internet without a firewall is asking for it.....;)

Ok, thanks guys. I will see if i can sort out my **** today. I told my ISP about cancelling and they obviously crap about it, i been on for 4 days but they say if i cancel now then i pay this month and next.
I know you say its not the ISP, but they should be better equipped to explain these things to there customers.
Not if you have a problem, to just say, oh well its you that used it and if not then maybe someone hacked and took my bandwith. I think just on the whole they a bit week.

Yo Rams, I also got ADSL recently, like a week ago and on my first day I did about 267megs in total. And yeah was just on browsing and emails.
Guess what I browsed? myspace! And was just downloading some emails from yahoo....the total of that was 3 hours and I did 267megs, were its about 37megs up and the rest down. So myspace is a definite killer, especially when they make all those pretty, bandwidth chowing profiles.
So 3 gigs in 5 days from browsing isnt that impossible~

But u did say ur upload is more....have u been sending emails? or playing with ur webcam or voIP or anything? And updates of softwares can be quite big as well....

Anyways I learnt to just chat and view myadsl forum with my adsl....

Well thats something i noticed about community sites like myspace.com & hi5.com .. the upload margin suddenly goes up. I still have not figured out why tho *shrug* I mean its got pictures etc.. maybe its the scripts or how it does it? But yah, it depends on how rich in content the websites you visit.
