Has anybody else been having *strange* stuff going on with
their ADSL this weekend?
Yesterday, a I noticed that web pages *weren't happening*
on my DSL account. I looked at some traceroutes and noticed
heavy packet loss happening about 3-4 hops out...but hoped
it would go away as I had a bunch of pressing domestic
chores.
Then later, I noticed that there was like 30% packet loss on
the first hop after my router...uh oh, suggests a bad local
lead, which is entirely possible as the jungle has taken over
(again) behind the house & the local lead now runs *through*
several trees that it used to run *over*. The DSL router
is reporting huge error counts (like 40% of total) on Rx cells on
the DSL interface. Strangely, I *can* view web pages, but
it's like really really really slow.
...which I suppose is *one* reason why I'm not getting
openvpn to work.
Same thing this morning, but I have to wait until tomorrow
to call 10219.
Then I come back later this afternoon, find I can't see *anything*
on the web.
Then it gets even stranger...I look at traceroutes to google and
the like and they're all clean. Ping google with <3% packet loss.
Can telnet to the web server, type and HTTP GET and it responds
with a page really fast. Telnet/ssh response to my box on TENET
is fine. But most pages I look at in my browser are blank, or
missing stylesheets/images, etc, etc. I try different browsers,
I even try going through a proxy. Lynx even complains. I even
try booting windows, same stuff.
I finally connected with EDGE, and things seem to work ok,
but with the usual lack of haste.
Is this a symptom of (i) a general problem on ADSL that other
people are having, or (ii) a specific problem that somebody
has seen before? I can't explain what I'm seeing...there's
clearly a problem on the DSL side, but I can't explain where it is.
