Adult ADHD

nope you can't, each person is different and their bodies will handle things differently, I've heard stories about some guys who do go down and agro on the meds and others who go robotic.

That's because the brain doesn't like to be tampered with. It will try to restore it's normal function it doesn't know it's diseased so even if it's abnormal to the brain it's the normal function.

When you interfere with the monoamine neuropathways you interfere with the brains control of itself and the body. Certain pathways will be enhanced and others will be diminished. This is why psych drugs can be used to treat many different psychiatric conditions and also non psychiatric conditions like IBS

Unfortunately peoples neuro chemistry is very unique and hence you get a very wide set of results as you say from aggro to zombie. In which case you have to switch. Methylphenidate can cause aggressive behavior and for those patients we switch them to Strattera (atomoxetine). Obviously should never be done without a psychiatrist in my opinion because there is a lot to manage with it

Odd. Methylphenidate actually prevents you from sleeping it's actually designed for narcolepsy.
Unless you take it daily with alcohol, from the time you open your eyes until you pass out

You will see it in the report card. Pay attention to academic performance. If you see a better performance then you'll know. Try not pushing different homework schedules it's early he can afford to be with minimal intervention. This way you can isolate the ability of concentration.

They doing a trial run usually we start with Ritalin plain in doing the diagnostic and finding the total qty of Ritalin to use before switching to the slow release Concerta or Ritalin LA
This. Liefie forgot to inform the teacher that we are unable to get any ritilan 10 for my son. We immediately saw it in his report card and when we spoke to the teacher she said she could see a huge difference during those 14 days.

We took my son to a a child psychologist who referred us for medication. During the first few months he gave us a questionnaire to send to his teachers every 2 weeks or so to gauge his difference.

They all saw a huge difference in him over those months. The first month was quite tough, he was pale and subdued and struggled with his stomach, but he chose to keep taking it because it helped him so much at school.
After that those the side effects went away, now he is doing amazingly well.

Have you seen the studies on how young kids on psych meds deal with life as adults when the meds are taken away?

Was being a bit facetious partly because of how ubiquitous it's become to prescribe kids (with minds still developing & adapting to the environment) psychiatric drugs without much concern for what it does further down the line. Feels like a lot of times it's the education system that's an issue (conform or get out basically) and the drugs help the teachers more than the kids. Dunno, it scares me a bit how many kids are now dependent on drugs to modulate their behaviors and how they feel.

You de realize that ADHD never goes away right?
As someone that grew up with severe ignored/undiagnosed ADHD, I can tell you that the alternatives are far far worse than that. I HATED every minute of school. Socially anxious mixed ADHD made for a fukking nightmare experience.

He is happy, he has friends, he is getting great grades. If it means that he is medicated for the rest of his life, so be it.

I regret not getting diagnosed and medicated decades ago.

And neither do the drugs if you're medicating it. Not saying your case wasn't warranted, I just think generally the way we teach kids needs an overhaul so that their particular predispositions can be nurtured to their advantage rather than be medicated.

Not exactly true. ADHD varies in intensity. You can get from can't focus for extended periods to bouncing of the walls destroying the house 24/7.

While there is some truth in what you saying you have to remember that the brains are changing with the inventions of the modern world. For example TV (screen time) actually destroys a child's concentration but try banning tv at home it's next to impossible.

Next we have better academic performance and the kids have a chance to make something of themselves instead of being labelled unruly and stupid and put in remedial and the F class.

Also you only use Ritalin up to your academic career depending on how bad it is.

You clearly haven't seen a severe ADHD child......

I feel the same.

That's why I would ignore the uninformed in this thread.

Download the Brain Waves app choose the focus present, listen with headphones while you work

Or try not doing multiple things at once and accept multitasking is a fallacy.

When you are doing more than one thing at once something is being compromised, always.

I don't get why you telling me this.

How am I doing that?

Buy buying into the concept of multitasking through the notion that you can listen to music/audio to improve the way you work, but meanwhile it amounts to being more of a distraction and actually doing worse at the task at hand for the lack of focus.

It's not music, it's binaural beats. Essentially white noise.

Personally I struggle to mundane tasks if I'm not listening to a podcast or music. It's at x3-4 times longer to those types of tasks when I'm not listening to something.

Now when doing stuff around the house I set the 29hz beta focus mode on Brain Waves and put in on a timer to give me a sense of urgency and I get things done in no time.

Also I've been listening to the the Deep Sleep present 15 minutes before I go to bed recently and that's really helping me sleep through the night. Though my dreams seems to get hyper detailed as a result.

Alright that kind of thing may work without much effect that your brain needs to "filter".

The struggle with mundane tasks I understand and therefore people induce a distraction on purpose, but the point I was trying to make is that it is still a distraction and at the end of the day a compromise of now doing two things less well instead of just one thing properly.

I'm not saying it's wrong as such, just that there is a price to be paid and we need to stop telling ourselves we can multitask when the evidence is overwhelming that we actually can't.

In a way it's almost reducing distraction if it's a choice between background traffic & environment noise vs. just something that's like white noise.
