Hey guys

So since I'm kind of an adventure freak, I've decided that I want to go do an Advanced Driving Course, albeit with BMW, VW or Audi.

I've already checked out the various packages that they (all the above mentioned ) offer.

I just wanted to find out if anyone actually did one of these courses and if somebody have any recommendations regarding this.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Give xrapidx a shout as I know he's done it in his S2000(Which I need to steal at some point).

I did the BMW Skidpan in 1999 and Precision Driving a few years later ... very cool.

Never tried the rest, so can't compare

I did the MB Dynamic Driving in July. Skid-pan and on racetrack. Very nice. You get to drive the C63 AMG.

Oh my hat!! Seriously?? That's insane!

At BMW you can drive the 330i and the M5, but the M5 will cost you about R3k more than the package with the 330i.

Thanks guys, appreciate the inputs.

I did the BMW skidpad advanced vehicle control one a few year ago. Was great fun, 330i for the day :) We looked at the VW one (i drive a gti) but decided to rather do the BMW one since it uses a rear wheal drive car.

I used to do the advanced courses for Porsche, and of course had to do a course first. I have now done the Audi one as well, they are all brilliant.

Should be essential before anyone even gets a licence to be let loose on the road!

They all offer the same type of thing, and any decent course will have both front and rear wheel drive cars to play with.

base your decision on whether you want to learn front wheel drive(VW&Audi) or rear wheel drive(Merc & BMW). Should be whatever yoru daily drive is...

I would go with Audi as i mainly drive FWD cars but then you also get to play with Quatros and see what a huge difference there is! ....lateral drift is the coooolest!!

IMHO there is no better way of learning these things by playing Forza or GT...lol no just kidding.

We used to take our rear wheel drive cars (can't say A***) and go to the soccer grounds...the cars were already in a state, but to do donuts was our specialty...its however more difficult on raod as it is on dirt road...take your car to a skid pan one afternoon and just do things to unsettle the car and check your reactions...you will thus learn to predetermine what the car will do in certain sittuations...but all this is void since one of the fanboys are going to refute it soon LMAO!

I did the audi one at the test track somewhere out in the middle of nowhere.. .cant recall the name now.
Basically it covered all the courses but very briefly.
There was high performance course which was basically just going around the alpine type track with the guy telling you how you should take corners etc.
On the skidpan we learnt how to deal with aquaplaning and also how to control the car on wet surfaces when you do an emergency stop.
Did the anti-highjack course where they talk you through how they do it, precautions you should take , etc. Some of that stuff is scaaary.
Then we did the 4x4 course where you take a Q7 through their little 4x4 course, mad fun when you balancing on 2 wheels :D

On the courses other than 4x4 the cars were either 3.2 quatro, 2.0TDI, 1.8T
The S courses are quite alot more expensive, but what i would give to take a s5 round that track.

When you do go for the driving courses please don't be like those dudes who go the "attendance" certificate and brag at parties about how they are legaly better drivers than all please I beg of you!

Enjoy it...oh, another thing, which co. you work for, I know the company I work for normally sends the guys who travel alot on advanced BMW driving courses, but they generally just teach you how to drive defensively and evasive driving...

Loved it.

sometimes BMW will send you an offer for a free drving course.
I got sent one and it arrived the day after the course :(

also, some insureance policies will offer you a discount if you have the advanced driving course, so it might be worth while to speak to them about that as well, could have a deciding factor in your choice :)
