Hi Guys

Im trying to put together a decent as to what is out there, how much it costs, and what they offer, from what I understand some courses are far more comprehensive and offer more (skidpan, track, anti hijack etc) than others.

Who has done what and what can you recommend?

Thanks alot

Jude

I think there was a thread about this before, hit the search button to find out...

But your looking at 2k upwards...what advanced driving you talking about?

Accident recovery?
Defensive/Offensive driving?
Donuts and handbrake turns?- I can teach you these LOL...

I would reccomend the skid pan and then some evasive manouvres...and then highly reccomend taking your car sideways if its a rear wheel drive...and doing some 180deg handbrake turns...

Best one was the BMW advanced driver training...with the z4 //M coupe. Was R5k for full day; R2.5k for half day...not sure if they still offer it; now that this //M is no longer in production

Im up in joburg so they are mostly on or around kyalami i understand, do most of the (decent/german) car manufacturers offer these?

I hear that completing some courses will drop my insurance premium as well.

I have done several over the years including:

Audi
BMW
Merc
VW

The VW one used to be my most favourite one. Now I just get the impression the instructors are only interested in showing off. Maybe I have just had bad instructors, I don’t know.

The one I would recommend now is the BMW one (it is on Kyalami and I quite enjoy that track). Merc one is also pretty good (but I find Zwartkops a bit too short). I wouldn’t go near the VW one.

Do the Audi or BM... But it depends on the car you driving or will be driving, Its useful to know how to handle a rear wheel drive/Quattro car but if you not driving one everyday it could be useless to you, certain parts are for all drivers though.

True but only to a point. Front, rear and four wheel drive do have different characterestics but they only become apparent when you start to push it. This especially true if your car has traction control and ABS.

The big difference does come in when your daily driver is not equiped with all the traction control and ABS goodies and you are trained on a high performance car that has them.

All in all these courses (if you have a decent instructor) teach you how you should react in an emergency situation.

Great idea, and remember that some insurance companies will lower your premium if you do an advanced driving course!

They'll only do that if you get a certificate - you only get the certificate if you pass their test, which I didn't bother doing.

I've done Alfa, Merc and BMW (Skidpan). Doing Audi in Oct.

can't say that I have been told contradictory information.

But I enjoy driving a top model car around a track.
