Hi folks

As you know we are funding this site partly by advertising and partly by a sponsorship from Afrihost. Cara is handling all the advertising issues and is not very concerned about the kind of companies that actually make bookings etc (unless they advertise the latest Ron Jeremy offering :D). If you have any complaints regarding companies advertising on this site please let me know! Although they fund our hosting/prizes/adwords/expenses we would still like to make certain that MyADSL remains respectable.

BTW: A big thanks to Cara for handling the advertising. I hope one day MyADSL will actually be able to buy her a bunch of flowers for her help :D

It's great to see the advertising going strong and hopefully it will ensure the continued existence of MyADSL (without which ic would be "homeless" ;)).

I personally don't have an issue with any the companies currently advertising.
 
I think as long as the ads stay IT related and are from legitimate companies, it should be fine. We trust you to use your discretion when accepting ads.

I am fine with it - its not invasive, just out of interest - what would you do if telkom wanted to advertise on myadsl? that would be a joke
 
I tend to just blank out website advertising these days, I'd struggle to tell you in 5 minutes what was advertised at the top of this page. So I don't really care if you even need to get pr0n sites advertising, it's the discussion we're all here for, not good prices on viagra.
 
same here spamtheman, sometimes I'll be on a site @ work looking for code or a crack and people will go, "WHAT ARE YOU WATCHING?!"

I'm like "huh..." and then I notice the nice pr0n advert smack dab in the middle of things.

While on the topic of advertising, I have just deleted a thread in the General ADSL forum due to advertising. It makes no difference whether the company has a banner up or not, we must not allow people to bluntly advertise on the forum. It can quickly become a spam zone. Advertising on MyADSL will never entitle any member/company to special treatment. This was one of the arguments when we initially allowed advertising on the site. We will always remain completely impartial, independent of who sponsors/advertises on MyADSL. And regarding the Telkom advertising question: we will gladly allow them to advertise here. In fact, I think we should offer them a discount…they are, after all, the main reason why this site came into being :D

Please mail me if you feel somebody is advertising on this forum…

Well done rpm! I agree fully.

Speaking of advertising on the web, don't you people use adblock??? I have a my adblock extension setup with five rules and it blocks 99% of web ads. Its such a pleasure :D

AdBlock is becoming a swear word in advertising circles, I'm sure. I also use it.

Question is, does it still register the ad as being shown for the advertiser?
 
Personally, I always leave the ads for forums I spend time on to support that site.
If everyone blocks the ads, then there'll be no ad revenue coming in for rpm !

So, unblock adds for mybroadband - you know it's the right thing to do ! :)

No it wouldn't because it doesn't load the image and so doesn't register a hit. Its like browsing without images turned on. Adblock isn't really a problem yet because Firefox's market share is still so small compared to IE. So enjoy it while it lasts.

Agreed. I also have the ads on for myadsl. I actually find them half interesting.

If it simply post-processes the page, then yes. If it blocks the actual request to the ad server then no.
