Advertising: Your feedback needed

As this is a "free" forum I feel everyone should be allowed to advertise... even (puts heatshield up) Telkom. This site is aimed at broadband and like it or leave it they are all we have in fixed wire. It would be a "crime" not to take there money for advertising.

As for more Ads I think RPM has excellent judgement on these matters and place my trust in him. He has brought us this far, why question him now?

Cheers

IMO go for it...

BBW, exactly the sentiment I wanted to express - you beat me to it :).

Telkomonopoly adverts - yes IMO even the devil should be allowed to advertise here, with the express purpose of offsetting & reclaiming some of the money that makes MyADSL an expensive & brave endeavour in SA. Another aspect of this, if Telkomonopoly advertises, I expect that its competitors will do the same ;).

I would like to see us doing something with RSS feeds though - advertising in the form of 3rd party RSS feeds (has the advantage of getting rid of bandwidth hungry graphics)...

I would hate to see a Telkom ad on myadsl. BUT, as I've always said, I think it's a good idea to let Telkom advertise here - if only because it would be ironic that they would then be paying for the upkeep of the biggest thorn in their side.

Advertising can be useful. I support allowing more ads on myadsl. As much as I despise Telkom, it would be hilarious if you could get them to advertise here!

Please go ahead, and take the decisions necessary to ensure this site will remain the public voice in the SA telecommunications arena...

Hi folks

As you might know MyADSL has grown substantially over the past two years. This growth initially forced us to move the site overseas, but thanks to a generous sponsorship from Afrihost we were able to move the site back to South Africa. Unfortunately hosting fees are not the only cost that the site has to cover. The day to day running of MyADSL can be costly at times, but luckily we were able to cut even over the last few months. We would however like to ensure that MyADSL’s future is secure and that we have some additional funds to provide you guys with a better service.

We are in the privileged position that advertisers are asking us for additional advertising space, and I would therefore like to ask your permission to make a few extra advertising slots available. It will definitely be non intrusive advertising (no DHTML effects etc.)…simply a way for companies to let you guys know about their services. The benefits of these additional funds will go directly back into MyADSL!

Can you please give your views on this matter.

Regards,

RPM

go for it rpm.
whats good for myadsl is good for us :)

Hi rpm,

I definitely support advertising on the site, but please make sure that you are charging enough for it. You are in an extremely powerful position in that there are a large number of highly intelligent members(;)) that visit often, it is clear what these visitors' interests are and it is possible to track opinions through the forums. For marketers these things are like gold, so make sure that you get your pound of flesh.

Maybe use the money to buy that Trafica report:D

Go for it

Seems like a good idea,
I will even accept Telkom adds if they are overcharged about the same that they are overcharging us. :D

As much as ads irritate me, I wouldnt have a problem with them if they're keeping the site alive! :)

I also agree with a few of the other guys on letting Telkom advertise. This is a free and liberal site and blocking telkom from advertising would be a way of moderating what visitors see and experience, which isnt what this site is all about IMO.

Now there's an idea, a special advertising rate just for Telkomonopoly - it would be 71% more than any of its competitor's rates...:D

I agree with RolanD, more advertising wouldn't hurt the site at all as long as it doesnt become a huge lashing webpage! Maybe you could do some sort of a donation page, I would feel comfertable( sorry i cant spell :P) sending you guys an amount via penpal or equvalent. It is all worth having this site, it help all of us with our knowledge and problem with different internet options.
Thanks for the good site!
