Adverts in WhatsApp confirmed

It's going to be a pain in the posterior but if they're not shoved in my face, I guess I could try get used to them. At least I'm not forced to look at them. If they become a nuisance as they usually do, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be installing an ad blocker for WhatsApp... I'd rather pay for an ad blocker than have ads shoved down my throat.

Thought about it but the Freeme bundle includes enough other things - esp 5gb of music streaming - to make it worthwhile.

Pity TM's Whatsapp bundle was so short lived.

They integrated into FreeMe, the R29 for 150MB includes the 500MB social media data. CellC's one is still cheaper at R17, but it doesn't include the data and Telkom minutes.
Again, get the package that suits your needs. My maid likes the CellC one as she pretty much only uses WhatsApp and never surfs, meanwhile the Telkom 1GB is good for me as I need ~700MB of data a month off of WiFi that's not "social" data. Now if I could only get my phone to exclude certain apps from data tracking...

So long as the adverts stay out of teh chat screen I will be happy.

One concern though is how do they intend on personalizing the ads, if at all. I mean Google says they scan our emails, well a bot does so no human eyes see our mails.

But Whatsapp says our chats have end-to-end encryption so that wouldn't work for them; wonder if they will stop offering end-to-end encryption then at some point? Remember when they used to charge a fee? Maybe they would go back to a modified version of that deal; a fee for an ad-free version with end-to-end encryption, and an ad-supported version without encryption.
