Ok. Looking for a recipe to dump gnome without uninstalling. I'm going to install KDE on Debian Wheezy, and I want some gnome stuff (gtk), but I don't want the current 10⁶ gnome GUI upgrades.

So, I'm looking for suggestions. My instinct says uninstall gnome-desktop first, but I'm not sure whether that will also dump the office stuff.

Thanks in advance!

Took me a while to figure out that "dumping gnome" is not about gnomes taking dumps ;)

Anyway, on debian its easy: apt-get remove gnome-* . I did that when I moved from Gnome to KDE a few weeks back, but first do an "apt-get -d install kde" to cache all your packages just in case you kill your network connections and cannot get it working in the terminal.

Pariahs! Console is the fuel. Console indicates that you have crossed the Rubicon. Shows that as a child you did childish things, but are now a man! Not a mans man, no, a real man!~ Shave with a fishing knife~!

side effects may include: wheezing, coughing, bad eyes and a tendancy to spout sh*t frequently on php forums.

Thanks. Will do that. Did apt-get remove gnome-* also remove rubbish like epiphany and evolution?
