Advice for an IoT Pool pump switch

I use the Sonoff Mini 2 for the same application. I'm not interested in the power consumption at all. It runs when it must, nothing going to change that.

It helps me maintain a steady level of hatred for the pool and something to moan about to my wife

@LandyMan

I fitted one of these, if you havent already purchased one of the other suggested smart switches

Don't get me started on pools. Just spent a fortune on the paving and new plumbing when my garden technician has managed to crack the weir with a 2 pound hammer. The leaf trap cover was stuck so he tried to "tap" it loose. But when you go the wrong way you need to tap harder and harder. So eventually he got it loose along with the tabs that hold the lid down and a nice long crack halfway around the seating face.

I'm considering replacing my old mechanical timer switch. What's the verdict on the best product?

CBI Astute switch

Would agree. You could probably get away with it as stock if you like Tuya, or can flash with ESPHome if you prefer local control. Nice thing is that you can monitor power consumption, which should give you clues as to what your pump is doing. i.e. when the filter is clean, you should have lower power consumption that when it is dirty, or when the weir basket is blocked, etc.

Will get that

I used a Shelly 1 flashed with HomeKit. Been in there for about 1.5 years now.

Works perfectly. Too bad they don’t sell it anymore it was cheap and it just works and works ..

I am also assuming that I can use the smart life app instead of the CBI app?

Did this on my old pool DB. Installed a Sonoff 4 Channel with RF remote, so you can use the app and timer as well as the little remote when doing cleaning and backwashing. One channel for the light, and the 2nd for the pump and the other 2 spare.

Gonna pop one of those in for my irrigation system. Didn't know it came with a remote.
For cleaning and such I just tell Google to switch it on/off when needed

Oh yes, forgot about the Google Home integration, use that too.

It is a bit awkward yelling from the other side of the pool telling Google to switch off the pump

PS: Remote sold separately, and just make sure the Sonoff controller also supports RF - 4-button-rf-remote

LOL, yeah. I have it on my watch, so at least don't have to scream too loud :)

I have the older 4CH without the RF receiver currently installed in my pool DB. Gardener knows to push the top button to turn the pump on, and I can turn the multi-coloured pool light on and change programs from HA. I did install an inline flow meter which was supposed to warn me when the flow rates dropped, but it has never worked properly :-( Now even an oscilloscope is unable to see the pulses, I think it is poked.
