Hi guys

I need new front/rear brakes on my Focus ST and Ford quoted R8000 for just pads and skimming. Is that right, sounds like daylight robbery to me?

Robbery.

Why do your disks need skimming? Is there a pronounced ridge/lip at the edge?

Get pads from Midas and DIY them.

Thx Sinbad

I do not have the tools for the rear, its quite pita if you youtube it. Im thinking a Bosch or similar will do it for half the price probably

And the skimming is probably not needed, car has 30 000km on

It is pretty crazy. Do your homework and search for OEM spec (or better) brake pads for the car, get a SupaQuik to quote you on fitting and skimming and see what it's going to cost.

Getting it done at another place might void your warranty.

Not sure, but I know my brother in law always have his breaks done at stealership to keep his warranty. He gets ripped off so badly lol

+1 for DIY (regardless of where you decide to buy the pads)

I was also very pleasantly surprised by my local Midas the other day when they supplied me with a set of Brembo pads instead of some el-cheapo brand I've never heard of.

I bought front and rear Bendix Ultimate brake pads for my 350Z from Powerbrake, R3709 including courier.

They'll never void your warranty for replacing your own brakes.

You do not need specialised tools for the rear- sure they help but I've replaced many a rear set of pads (on calipers where the pistons don't just press back in but have to be turned/screwed while being pressed), it's just a bit more involved.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I have a caliper kit, if you want to swing by sometime we can have a go at it. Alternatively, the hiQ option sounds good.

Just got off the phone with hiQ, R2700 for front and rear fitted.

Update

Just got back from hiQ

R2600 fitted front and back.

It was cheaper for me to replace the discs myself rather than pay for the skimming.

Was R3500 all round for discs, pads, wheel spanner and a jack for my GTI.

Not that I mean DIY it, but you should get much better than R8000 going to a third party especially if you bought the parts yourself.

Oops didn't see your post just now.

That sounds WAY more reasonable.

Just shows you how they absolutely take the piss. I understand they have floor space rental and all that to make it slightly more expensive but certainly not more than double.
