Hi all,

Hope you are well!

I have bought a generator, and my router is on, however there is no internet. The light on the router for internet is not on, but the router itself has power.

My ISP is Afrihost.

What can I do to get internet? Am I doing anything wrong?

Thanks!!

What sort of router do you have ? Telkom lines ? Fiber ? Air Fiber ?
We have telkom lines and we lose ours too - so use a Cellphone router which gives us internet unless the tower backup batteries fail (which they sometimes do)

Edit - Telkom don't have backup batteries for their ADSL lines in most areas. So you won't have telephone lines either. We have nothing.

My tower seems to require about 8 hours to fully recharge so yes the shorter the interval before the next LS session the quicker the tower will die.

Telkom is useless if they don't have backup.

Maybe the generator isn’t giving “clean” power, and then the router can’t sync on VDSL line.

I see similar results with WiFi, it is on and seems ok, tull you do speedtests.

Check on the router when load shedding is happening what the up and down stream is.

This ^^

In the past I've used a different AC Adaptor for a router than the specified one, and the router comes on, all the lights flicker to indicate traffic flow, but no internet. Could be what he said regarding the power given to said router.

Other than that could be what the others said regarding your ISP having no power backup during a shed.

Interesting - but if there is no line, I am not sure how this will help.

he light on the router for internet is not on, but the router itself has power.
Doesn't the light usually show that the line is there ? Asking because I don't really deal with this stuff - it has been a while.

I have a 10 Mbps Telkom line with NetGear router hooked up to my inverter and have not experienced any problems.

I have dial tone on my home phone during loadshedding, chance adsl will work if i hook up up to a battery?
A bit late but: The data for the ADSL connection is added onto the same telephone cable but these are different signals and originate from different equipment..
The best way to check your ADSL connection is to phone your helpdesk at your ISP or Telkom.

Or you can cut the wires and press it against your tongue, if it shocks you it means there should still be power.
