I've recently moved into a new place. It's an apartment complex. I would like to get decent internet as I ditched my DSTV and I am currently enjoying Netflix and Youtube for entertainment. Sadly there is no Fibre in my area and I think it will be a long while before we get fibre.

I would like to spend no more than R800pm (basically replacing the DSTV subscription)

I was initially going to take the CELL C Fixed LTE deal promoted by various providers. However, upon reading various posts on this site, I've decided against it.
Telkom's January Big Deal looks promising, but again, after various posts, it seems like I would be shooting myself in the foot if I go with Telkom. :D

So my question is really this: Do I go adsl with a different provider that's not Telkom or do I check out some decent LTE deals?

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards
Abby

1. How far is your place from the exchange?
2. Which area
3. LTE - it depends.. see question 2

I opened my own thread not too long ago with a similar query.

In our case, we didn't have the opportunity of ADSL as there wasn't a line available at the exchange. LTE was the only option so I took the opportunity to ditch both Telkom and DSTV. I went for the LTE Cell C offer with WebAfrica, which arrived last week. So far the connection has been decent. We are on the edge of the LTE range and tend to get 10Mbps. Nothing to write home about but certainly better than the 2Mbps ADSL rubbish we had.
I've also ordered a Rain sim to use during the day, with their R250 off peak unlimited deal. So in total, we're paying R780 p/m.
Can't vouch for the Rain sim yet but as per their map, the area is very blue.
Regarding the Cell C LTE, I'd say it very much depends on your area. I wouldn't discount the option entirely. Best part is with WebAfrica and Rain, there are no contracts

If you can get 20Mb VDSL in your area I would highly recommend it over LTE. Your monthly cost should be under R800 depending on how much peak time data you'll require.

Otherwise, depending on coverage, a fixed LTE service might be your best bet.
