Hi All

I would like to ask for some assistance,

I am busy buying a house which has a solar system installed, 12X 335W panels, 3x2.5 KW lithium ion batteries, and a mecer 5kw inverter.

currently 2x 200L geysers (traditional), one on Eskom and other is disconnected as the additional 200L is not required.

My question is, I would like to avoid the geyser running on Eskom and also i want to be able to run on the solar without it being overloaded, such as fridges and dishwashers, kettles etc.

1. do i keep the mecer and install a 200L PV geyserwise with 3 additional panels to run the geyser on that seperately.
2. do i install another mecer 5kw in parralel, with some addional panels
3. do i install a sunsynk 8kw and some panels and remove the Mecer and run everything through the sunsync.

your advice would be appreciated.

Whats your budget? lol

Not to be facetious but it DOES factor / limit what you can and can't do - the 8kw Sunsynk would future proof you and manage the loads - being able to supply the house (essential and non-essential) from the PV. I am not sure about the Mecer and its functions

It depends on the model of the inverter. If the inverter is still available. I would suggest adding another one for a 10kW system.

If not, then a 8kw sunsynk is the way to go.

@Snyper564 is your geyser connected to your 8kW sunsynk?

Yeah I have 2 geysers in series - they are on the inverter one is always "off" both are on evacs too.

Will likely need to top up temp in winter topped up 1 morning in the last month

Mecers are Axpert type inverters and typically do not blend power from different sources (solar / battery / grid). Some do, but very few of them. Take a look at this:

For best operating efficiency, as well as flexibility, a Super Hybrid inverter (such as the 8K Sunsynk) would be highly recommended to maximise the potential of your generation and storage.

Oh my gods. I thought for a moment that someone was asking for advice on the G class star known locally as Sol and attendant planets .
