I run Windows 7 32 bit on a Gigabyte motherboard with 4 GB RAM - 2G and 2GB modules.
A couple of weeks ago the PC started sometimes sounding a long, unbroken beep on startup.
This normally indicates a problem with the RAM. I pulled the modules and cleaned the connectors and sockets with contact cleaner.
The problem remained - sometimes it is fine, sometimes not. (PC otherwise works fine BTW - beep and all).
I have run all kinds of hardware checks but nada.
Thinking that one of the modules may be faulty I have tried removing one at a time.
The weird situation is that the machine works fine - 'beepless' - on either of the two modules on their own but sometimes beep with both fitted.
Anyone has any bright ideas?

How many ram slots do you have? I had a similar problem where my ram was causing beeping noises when fitted to slots 1 and 2 (out of 4 slots). My friends told me I should either use slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 if I'm using 2 ram sticks in 4 slots. I tried that and the odd beeping stopped and PC runs fine since
