Hi all.
I am currently looking for a new pc screen, 27'' or something in that range.
One screen that im looking at is the Samsung P2770H,
at this link it goes for roughly R3500

If any of you have used this screen or have any alternatives to this one, please post here :)
I am currently using an HP w2408h, the reason i dont want to go bigger is i want to stay at the 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 range and avoid the dramatic increase in price.
My budget is roughly R4k can maybe stretch to 5k if need be, will use the screen mostly for gaming, and movies.
Thanks in advance

mmm... Firstly you only really notice HD 1920X1080p at sizes greater than 30 inch. That said hd is the way to go. Gaming you need the ffg specs 2 to 5 ms response time. HDMI in 1 port at least. Make sure that 1080p is the NATIVE resolution. And contrast ratios greater than 70000:1 . Get either samsung or sony lcds. Google the screen name for reviews. Look i would suggest u get a 32 inch full HD TV and use that. I think game has one for 3500.

I know this falls out of your budget, but I would recommend it over that Bravia 32"...
There's also a one day special on for the Samsung LA32C630 (32", 1920x1080, 100Hz) @ R5300.
My dad recently got that TV from Nashua Electronics with a 3yr warranty. It's pretty awesome that the TV has Ethernet and USB 2 connectivity, so we were able to stream videos across the network (unfortunately not across network segments, since it has to discover the device) and play videos from a 1TB external HDD.

Large screens are nice for gaming, but if you're going to be playing on a competitive level, stay with smaller, responsive and high contrast screens.

Thanks for the replies sofar :)
The last time i connected a tv to my pc was in the CRT era :P, how is general pc usage on Lcd Tv's? is text the same quality than on pc monitors?
Muffin man i have searched for reviews on the samsung screen i linked, but i cant find a proper one. NAG has it in their dream machine, but the review on it was a few months ago and it wasn't really a review more like a spec summary :S
Pada my dad got a 32'' sony lcd tv a few months back, i will connect it to my pc and check out the picture quality etc then decide if i want to get a pc screen or a lcd tv

That would be the dynamic contrast ratio, most/all of the screens in that price range will have a true contrast ratio around 1 000:1.
If you have text or work type stuff on the screen the resolution does make a difference, but for games you have to look closely to see the difference between 720p & 1080p.

I am on a Dell 2711, it a couple bucks more but its a dammed fine screen. If you spend time in front of a screen on a regular screen I think its the bees knees. I do photo work so the extra costs is worth it to me.

@ Terumo - Pc zone had the same model going for R2200 last week...not sure if its still available

What gfx card do you have?

I have a Gtx 480, but i saw those dell's rock with their Ips pannels :) Sadly the resolution and the price goes up :S Thats why i want to stay at 1920x1200 range, i dont want to buy a new 3d card every year hehe

Is your HP not an IPS panel? Nice screens. :)

AFAIK there are only two 27" screens - Sammy you linked to, and one from LG. I'd definitely go for Samsung. I've used it IRL and it's great!

Postman, nope my screen is a TN panel. I baught it about 3 or something years ago at incredible corruption for R5.5k

Tbh, im pretty much set on the Sammy, still looking for alternatives though. And i dont want to go for the higher resolution screens.
Sheesh choices choices :)

IMO nothing will beat the P2770H (unless it's the P2770HD with TV card built in ;)). Only other screen to consider would be a 32" full HD.

Hmm you may be right, and if its as good as you say i will certainly opt for it then. Should get it early next month then, i will post here to let you guys know of my findings :)

Just placed my order for the sammy P2770H from take2. They have for a very good price R2700.
