might be a bit of a noob question, but i know that of the formites here are gurus on screens cards, so here goes.

I have a GTX295 with 1792meg memory.

I want to ensure that i can play the hi-res texture pack for Dragon age2. The requirements for this are that it needs a screen card with 1 gig memory and dx11 compliant.

As the GTX is an SLI, i assume its actually 896meg per card.

What will Dragon see and how will it decide if it will run on the this card? Does it see 1792 or 896?

Also, reading the reviews on teh GTX295 card, they all mention DX10. Nothing about DX11. The reviews are pretty old, but is the GTX295 DX11 compliant?

I've considered getting an upgrade, but comparing the new cards to my trusy GTX, i don't see the massive performance difference i was expecting for the 2 year age gap. (or am i completely wrong here.)

ANy ideas?

Thanks

Roddy

Pretty sure its a DX10 card. I think only Fermis and newer are DX11.

DA2 would see it as two 896MB cards. DA2 might not have a hard minimum of 1GB per card. It might be more of a recommendation. I would buy the game, and try it out. If it doesnt work to your liking, upgrade your card. If it works fine, save your bucks until better cards come out or your current card isnt good enough.

+1 to Ancalogon's recommendation.

You'll really have to pay an arm and a leg for a card that would give you better performance than the GTX 295.

The GTX 295 is a Dual GPU Card with a total of 1792 MB GDDR3 memmory that is split between the two GPU's at 896MB per GPU. It is also a DX 10 card and not DX 11 so any DX 11 features supported by the game can not be used with the card.

If you look at these specs you should not have any problems running the game with your GTX 295 depending on your CPU and RAM as well as OS but there is no mention of DX 10 requirements so I would guesse from this that it will be DX 9 quality graphics for you or a DX 11 card in your near future for the better looking graphics.

I am loathe to get to get of my GTX, but if it doesn't let me run the hi-res pack case its not dx11 i guess i will have to.
