Hi,

I would just like any advice on the best desktop\screen recorder software. Preferably a site where I can download for free but avoid all the spyware. I googled a bit but some of those sites seem dodgy.

Reason being I would like to record my activities for instance when I troubleshoot something or do something to fix a problem for a user..if I can send them a record of what I did like that they may understand what I did. For instance a simnple copy picture/paste to word file which a user here cannot do at the moment and is not in the office for me to show.

Thanks :)

btw I tried FRAPS but not sure how to get it to record the desktop...only games :/

^^ $20 for screen capture....:( bit steepish but thanks nonetheless.

Any other suggestions??

Preferably one that records rather than capture as well, and requires no unusual codecs to play back.

As I mentioned previously, the Faststone Imageviewer has a screen capture function built in.

If you do come across a good, freeware, no little brands/tags included screen recording/capturing software let us know. I use Camtasia for most of my training videos.

The free* Windows media encoder can do that.

Although if you're trying to explain to someone how to cut/paste in word it may be best to just shoot them between the eyes.

*Free as in beer, not speech, obviously.

ROFL :) You don't know the half of what I have to put up with here :p

Definately have to speak to HR about this  Hiring PC literate people.

Anyway I came across this:

http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/...e_Tools/ZD_Soft_Screen_Recorder_Download.html

It's free it seems...records relatively small file sizes in AVI format or many others. Didn't pick up any spyware (Although it is Mcafee we have to use ). Framerate is also pretty good. I prefer screen record to capture as I can just ALT/PrintScrn if I need to capture a window :p screen record can show these noobs step by step in realtime and if they don't catch it then all is lost in my world :)

I've got a little program that I used last year. The best program that I have come across. Would only be able to give it to you after this coming weekend but it's really good!!

I doubt that it will work on Vista as it didn't work on Win2003 but it works wonders on XP!!

I do have a crack for it also. Will keep you posted if you still interested by then!

Take this one for instance...I just got a call now.

A lady here wants to know once you have burned a cd how do you go check that there is anything on the cd?. :p

I swear if I start a thread on these type of things you all will crack yourselves :)

Explaining took about five minutes

I once had to explain to someone where the start button is for 2 minutes

Oh yes Camtasia Studio works very well

Here's another!!!

My colleague just got a phone call. I overheard her explaining to the user that you cannot expect the printer to print in colour if the spreadsheet is in black and white with no editing!!!!!!

She had a hard time driving this point through it seemed :/

Heres another one that happened today :p A user phoned up to say she kept getting a no dial tone error when trying to dial in. (bare in mind we do have old school dial-up to network facilities over and above VPN just as a backup last resort kind of thing)

We ask where she was dialing from and she was trying to use the LAN cable in this building from an office.

Screen Recorder Gold. If you don't pay for it, it only leaves a tiny watermark in the corner. Will record in any format you have installed CODECs for, eg divx, xvid, wmv, mpeg, avc....
Great for making DEMOs :).

Hello, guys!!!:)
I think that THE BEST screen capture software is Screen VidShot!!
This is the best way to record screen videos of your desktop. allows you to write video in different formats, also you may write your voice or music.

Screen recorder for technical help

I think screen recorder DemoCreator would be nice for technical support. It enable users to record what happened on their screen with audio and callouts. The final file could be publish as small swf file to send to the users who met the computer problem.

I use a little app called Mio Toolbox to do the screen capture. If writting manuals I just use the alt+prtscrn option and are amazed how many people do not know this. I love screen recorder for recording
