Hi all,

I currently have a 2004 Toyota Camry with 450000kms on the clock and am considering trading it in. Im thinking I can get 60-65k for it.

The problem is its a 2.2L and consumes quite a bit of petrol so I would like something lighter.

Im interested mostly in sedans, but may consider hatch backs. What do you guys recommend?

Thanks

You won't get that much on trade, you'll be lucky to get around R40k. I doubt the dealers will give you that much. The car is selling for about that price on auto trader...
Look here:

You haven't mentioned what type of car you are looking for? Sedan? Hatch? SUV ? Family?
You do mention its a bit heavy on fuel, so perhaps look at smaller engined cars 1.6L or so.
Some guidelines will help with advice.

45,000km per annum ... someone really enjoys driving.

From the kms on your Camry, I assume you do a lot of driving (over 40000kms / year). Is it mostly city driving or open road?
Also, what is your budget approximately?

450 000 in 10 years, wow that is a great run! Just remember you won't likely get near that mileage on a 1.4 or 1.6.
So if you plan to drive the same distance in the next 10 years, imo get something with a larger engine again. Petrol is after al relative cheap at the moment.

It was alot of driving, was an ex company car that was given to me, and was driving 250kms a day in the week, and once every second weekend or so

look at a demo i10 maybe? ex rental zeda car sales one; might be worth something; otherwsie maybe check www.SMD.co.za to view a live auction to see what cars going for

one more thing;
im probably gonna get flamed for this by all the Honda haters on this forum but here goes;

demo brio?

Most of us don't hate Honda's, it's just that the Brio is such a crap vehicle that it tarnishes Honda's good name.
I think the Honda Accord, Civic Type R and S2000 are brilliant vehicles.
The old Ballade was great but I don't like the styling of the new one.

fair enough, but if you look at a volvo c30 it also has that glass tailgate that everybody seems to hate;
nobody here says that is ugly; and its a 1.2 engine; nobody expect it to be a sports car like the brilliant s2000

if the styling so bothers you just get the sedan version of the brio; whats wrong with that?
seriously people just hate the brio for no really good reason; I have yet to see what everybody is on about?
best reason I can come up with is its a car that not been in production that long; and people dont want to chance it with something they dont know enough about;

I say fair enough; but do people not trust cars that not been around for that long? I suppose I can understand....
maybe if their will be a facelifted model soon ; maybe more of them will be around.......

Got myself an Opel Cosmo 1.6L T, 132kw and lite as feather. Take off it kills GTi's and bmw's lol. Average fuel consumption is around 10l when im driving but 6.7l on the book. Very nice and no thugs or hijackers are interested in it.

You will get 30k for that car, so use that as a starting point, look at a Fiesta, or a Focus if you need something bigger. Best selling car is a polo, so it has to be good also.

Dream on brother, dream on :D

Hehe ... he's probably referring to Mk1 GTI's and BMW 318's.

Opel Cosmo 1.6T
Kerb mass: 1470 kg (very heavy)
Power to mass ratio: 90kW/ton

Micro hot hatches. Was sitting behind a polo GTi last night and that car is freaking fast i must say. Had to really gun it to keep up

Lol @ 'Cosmo'; you mean Astra Cosmo. It's like saying eg. I drive a Ford Ambiente. Meanwhile the key piece of info is the 'Fiesta' part.
