Not so much the logan... Clio and Megane are good cars but the logan is a bit tin canny...

Hehe ... he's probably referring to Mk1 GTI's and BMW 318's.

Opel Cosmo 1.6T
Kerb mass: 1470 kg (very heavy)
Power to mass ratio: 90kW/ton

I also couldn't believe it but yes Golf 6 Gti, Golf 7 Gti, BMW 320i, Audi A5 2.0T, Polo Gti all chowed by the Opel Astra Gti believe it or not.

My dad has had a couple of Renaults. They are not bad cars, soft and comfortable.
The biggest issue with them was that even a small problem would take months to be fixed by Renault.

lol, currently im paying R500 a week for petrol and R100 for oil

So about R2400 per month for fuel/oil. How many KMs is that?

Any idea of a budget?

There is a Ford Fiesta TDCI Trend on Auto trader with 42000km, for R174k. I would go for something like that.

Being a diesel, it will be very frugal, and 42000km is not all that much.

65kms a day to work and back, 5 days a week

And thats way over my budget, I literally can only buy a car with what I sell my existing one for. Probably should have mentioned that sooner.

Then don't sell. Stay with what you know rather than take on unnecessary risk.

Seriously, the saving in fuel might be R500 a month if you are lucky. But you might buy somebody else's rust bucket that needs a new engine in 6 months.

You have had this car for years and I take it that it generally has no problems. Unless you can afford to buy a car for R100k plus, I would not trade it.

Yeah, i've known the car since it was new, and it hasnt broken down once. My problem is that R500 is 10% of my salary, hence the creation of this thread

I still wouldn't risk it. Why are you driving so far for work and getting paid so little?

You might end up saving R500 per month for a few months, then 6 months later you need to fork out R15k or you can't go to work.

The only way I would do it is if you knew a family member that was selling their car cheaply.
