Hey guys im looking to buy this card to replace my 9600Gt and was wondering if now is a good time to buy ,wil the prices be dropping anytime soon should i wait a while?

The HD4890 is really well priced, when compared to the GTX260 and 275. It performs fantastically. I Run the GTX280 and I bought one of XFX's HD4890's for the wifes PC, I was impressed! Less than half the price of what I paid for my card! Best value for money when it comes to GPU's...

Nov 2008 XFX GTX280XXX = R5699... FAIL
Aug 2009 XFX HD4890 = R2499... WIN

At 2.4k the HD4890 is definitely the best bang for bucks card out there now and you will see performance increase over the 9600GT.

Its better than the 9800GX2 in some games...which is 9800GT/8800GT in SLI so yeah get it!

Unless you have 4k to spend and wait for the HD5870...

Wait a few weeks, dx11 cards from ati coming. The 5XX0 series.

Those cards will be pricey when they hit. Chances are, when it hits our shores people will tell you to wait a few months for the prices to drop. But by then there'll be new cards around the corner so you should wait a few weeks till those get here.

In all honesty, if you want a performance boost and can afford the 4890 now, I don't see any reason not to get it.

UNLESS you are willing to pay a whole wad more for the new cards when they get here.

But of course what we didnt ask is what monitor are you using and @ what resolution?

I Upgraded from 8800gt to GTX280 purely for my 2333SW @ 1920X 1080. No need to waste money on a bigger GPU yet if you are not going to use it properly! If you run 1280 X 1024 on the 9600gt and move to a better card at the same resolution, you are not going to be impressed with the upgrade results!

True. If you're still playing on your 14" CRT you're not gonna see much performance boost.

I see the OP has a 19" LG LCD, what was the max res on those? Sure its no more that 1280X1024? Unless its a wide? You can get a 2333SW for R1699 these days!

I reckon wait a bit and find out when the ati are coming.

Not long now, i mean if it is still 2 months then rather wait man.

If he's already maxing out games with the 9600GT of course there wont be any performance boost. The reason he is posting here is probably because he is experiencing some lag.

I say wait till the HD5XXX series are released. You'll probably see further price drops on the HD4890. Buy it when it drops and forget about HD5XXX for a year because they will be overpriced when released. (as always)

@IRG i currently have a 19" wide lcd but my gf decide She's going to buy me a 2494HS for my birthday so thats why i want to upgrade my gfx.Any thoughts or suggestions?
