Okay well if that is the case and you can genuinely get away with the 40k price (which I find very unlikely) then it starts to make a bit more sense.

A warranty is probably going to cost you in the region of 20k.

So to pay another 20k to get a service plan thrown in and a new warranty from the factory as well as a new car then I can say sure that's a reasonable consideration and the fuel savings might even have you breaking even over a 5 years.

The 40K would further be negated by the service costs for the current car in the next few years (assuming the new one has a service plan).

But as I said I find it unlikely you'll get away with just 40K to pay in.
 
Your 2012 without mileage as a known factor is worth R140 000 odd if it's in perfect condition sold privately.

Trade in would be even less. So you are at least 100k short.

You did say a 2016 though so I guess it's a demo and not selling at the 250k odd list price. So I'm guessing there is one for 180k odd for sale?

Wouldn't going from a Titanium to a Ambiente also be a major downgrade?

I'd just stick the 40k in a money market and use it as your own insurance. A NA car won't have a risk of a turbo popping so if you make sure your services are done regularly (if you're doing 27000kms per year, you'll have to do multiple services per year), you'll be fine. Modern cars tend to last a long time.

Alternatively, move closer to work? Then the car becomes less of an issue. A 90km round trip every day is going to be hell. I cycle 20 mins to work (Kenilworth to Pinelands) and I even think it's too long... :whistle:

buy the car now and then down the line we can then talk when you create a thread about wealth management

My current Fiesta has 61 000 KM on the clock.

The ecoboost I was looking at went for R169 995 (22 000Km)

But yeah.. It seems to make more sense keeping my current car.

I really like those Fiestas, if I had to buy a new(er) car right now (mine is 2003 vintage) I'd probably go for one of those. They have an amazing chassis and very good differentials, I love the driving experience. You've got a good one!

Don't buy a new car. You have a free car man. Your 1.6L motor will last longer than the 1L ecoboost. Plus your 3dr just looks so much better.

I am still driving my 2010 Fiesta 1.6 3dr, it is amazing, drives like a beauty. I do about +-95km per day, keep the vehicle serviced or better yet, learn to do some servicing on the vehicle yourself, e.g Brakes, oil changes, spark plugs, I promise you you'll love your car some more. I service my car twice a year at Ford agents, do the other things myself.

I would also lean towards the a maintenance plan, but I've had some bad experiences (they refused to pay for my cambelt service at 120 000km, I just stopped paying they can come after me) however you'll probably only get a service plan because of the vehicle's age.

Please don't think you'll get 2.5l/100, you'll be disappointed. I get 5.8l/100 urban driving but that's because I don't floor it always.

Stay away from Honda then - ****ty Indian interior build quality.

Oh, and Toyota because they get hijacked and avoid the French and Italians since they know how to make pretty cars but not durable cars.

If he was buying something exciting sure.

I mean I don’t always exclude myself from the fools.

But from a Fiesta to a Fiesta? Not so sure that qualifies.
