Hi All....

I'm wanting to upgrade my Graphix card...I have a XFX GeForce 7900GT/GTO at the moment.
My PC specs are: AMD athlonx2 6000+, 2gig ram, Biostar TA770 MOBO, XFX Geforce 7900GT/GTO, with a Samsung 2494HS Lcd.
(I'll be upgrading my PSU as well)

I know it's not the greatest machine but for now it works. :erm: (one day I'll own a mac)
I mainly do photo editing (Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop) and then I jam some games every now and again....mostly 1st and 3rd person shooting games.

I would like to get something that supports HDMI as the screen I've got has got the capability to run it.

I'm currently looking at the following cards....keep in mind my budget isn't that huge....can spend about R1600.

here they are....

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated......
Thanks

I don't have access to any website besides mybb, can't send you the proof :(

The price difference vs performance, have a look at that.

and Ati is overall a better gfx card.

Have you maybe got any other suggestions? I know the ATI is great and I'm sure that it will work great with AMD.

forget about a mac if you wanna play games every now and again.

the 4850 aint bad...

um, not really,

Nowever, I think you should look at maybe a HD 5770 will do you best? It's around the same speed at the HD4870 (some games better, some games worse), overall, I think it's worth it... and I see it costs R1700... which aint bad :).

HD 5770 is R1700 ?

yeah Get that!! :)

Ok, so pretty much everyone thus far says ati.....is there anything in the R1600 price range that is better than the 4850? from ATI obviously....

gts250 is utter crap!

yes, read up,

the HD 5770 for R1700 (it's slightly more then you asked for, but it will be worth it!), and it has DX11, and all that eye infinity crap that everyone and their dogs are talking about.... It also runs cooler ;)

if that's the budget you got then go for gts250 1gb otherwide save a couple bucks more and get gtx260.like scotty said with the budget you have gts250aint bad. i also got gts250 and it not as bad as everybody says it is.but it's up to you........

Thanks for all the replies....I'll most probably go for the 5770...
Thanks again.....MyBB is the best forum eva..

A gts250 actually performs the same as the 4850. Rather go with the 5series it has dx11. You don't wanna be stuck with dx10.

Why are you recommending dx10 cards when dx11 cards are out?

yeah, that's what I can't explain , this is not a used car dealership ffs?

the HD 5770 is what, R300 more expensive, performs close to the GTX260/HD 4870 (it does better in some games and worse in others, but by about 5fps).

The HD5770 has a host of features over the DX10 cards, and when DX11 games come out, you will be able to use the new lighting features, and the new tessellation (which means that you can make the environment extemely detailed, but with less performance hits), new shading features...
