Advice on new Processor and MB

No, I dont think I should start playing around :D
So much for my current machine :(
Also do not want to blow a fortune and just bought the SSD

What is your current system?

You don't need a 2600k, 2500 will do fine and it's much cheaper even the 2400 but the price difference is not much.

Why are you wanting to go sandy bridge though?

Have you got the ssd? is the sata 3 giving you issues, is there no way to work around it or fix it? That is a power system dude, seems a waste to go buy new stuff now. Surely if the mobo sata 3 is an issue gigabyte must replace the mobo with one that works? RMA it.

Hey Killa, its not a workable solution on the Vertex 3 120gig.
Marvell is a piece of shyte. Everyone is having issues with it :(
They wont replace it or get Marvell to fix it

its not a gigabyte issue, the marvel controller don't have enough bandwidth to use on sata 3 ssd (its because uses 1 pcie lane if i remember), just use it on sata 2 port, its still pretty fast.

Correct although still half the speed it should be :(

Well half the speed is not bad as i call the speed the seek time which won't change. All that will change is the write read/write speeds. What do you use that will make use of 500m/b sec? 200mb read and write is still really fast and i doubt the extra read write is worth buying a new mobo and cpu. I use a sata 2 drive in my work pc and home pc and for my work pc yes 500mb read/write would save me time but for my home pc i use nothing that will even come close to 200 mb r/w.

The speed of the ssd won't change, the seek time will still be as low as it will be on sata 3. Just bare in mind i terms the seek time the speed some may say the speed lies in the r/w. Unless you use more than 250mb r/w there won't be a difference in performance as far as i know.

Not too bad R1800 ex vat for board
Still has a Marvell Sata 3 controller

Hmm doubt it is an issue with that ssd though? Maybe someone can confirm but I doubt its an issue.

all p67 and z68 have sata 6g from the intel chipset, and can use ssd at max speed , like a vertex 3 etc
