It has been a childhood dream to own a Porsche and I finally think I can get one.

The cayman was my initial choice and seems "affordable" but after chatting to some peeps the rear seats of a 911 carerra will be useful esp with having kids.

Now this means u am stretching outside my budget.

Is there much cost saving to getting a used model?
How often does the the shape change or facelift?
If I went with the cayman I would have got the "s". This is the same engine as the normal carerra. Is this adequate power for the bigger car?

Give me the money and I'll invest it for you! Forget you childhood dreams! You are an adult now.

Quick question..... now that you can afford the car... can you afford the maintenance and the insurance?

This ^^^

A friend of mine gave up his porsche after about 2 years, the maintenance costs killed him!

This is the issue.

But only you can make that decision, on whether to suffer a bit of financial pain to get a bit of emotional satisfaction.

Either of those cars are fine. Obliviously you lose a bit of acceleration with a heavier car.

2nd porches can be had a bargain. Just remember , when buying a used Porsche, you need to check, if the maintenance plan can be transferred to your name. If you buy from Porsche directly, there is no issue.

Maintenance on these cars are not cheap. There are a few good independent mechies. But you can not get good and cheap.

I have two cars. A sports car for me and a family car to take the wife and kids around.

On trade in, if you buy another Porsche you get a fair trade. If you buy another marque, you will get less on your trade in. The Porsche market is a huge monopoly, with the resultant issues.

Ok. Not really stretching budget but being more frugal about the spending.

So which used model is good. I've heard things like 997, 991 etc

You'll get there soon
And you only live once.

Also I was told there are only virgins in heaven and no supercars.

Thats what dreams are for. Enjoy whichever car you get. I'll be the one on the road seeing you drive past, going "i wish i could drive a car like that". Then i'll probably kick the dog when i get home cause i can.

Go for the M5 F10, family car when they in it, sports car when you're alone. And you get all the bells and whistles. :)

You can seek the advise of fellow forumites but in the end the decision is yours, and yours alone. If you can afford it, buy it.

Get the 981 over the carrera, thats wha't i'm gonna do

Get the Carerra, cayman somehow lacks something that a Posche should have IMO.

The only Posrche I have driven was a newer 911 turbo, the car was fun to drive and powerful but the ride was shockingly harsh, that is until I drove a Ferrari 550 Maranello which was even worse.

Test drive the Carrera first if you plan on using it with the family,I cant imagine the ride being much softer even though its not the performance flagship model.Don't get me wrong I'm not normally very critical of ride quality since my daily run around is BMW with sports suspension, but still these super car brands ride quality shocked me.
