Hi all :)

When it comes to tablets my knowledge is close to zero. With the recent load shedding I was thinking of getting a tablet. My idea is to either use if for watching movies, series etc. from a flash drive or streaming and web surfing using a Huawei E3531 with an Afrihost mobile data package. So the tablet needs to have USB or if it has a mini/micro USB I could get a USB to mini/micro USB converter. I am looking specifically at the Huawei E3531 for internet access firstly as it won't break the bank and secondly should something happen to my ADSL I could use that as a back up on my home PC.

Regarding the tablet I was looking at something like http://www.kalahari.com/Technology/Proline-10-3G-WiFi-16GB-White_p_49585066 or http://www.kalahari.com/Technology/Proline-Windows-8-9-3G-WiFi-32GB-Black_p_49660937 or maybe even something in the Lenovo Yoga range.

Any advice would be appreciated :)
Thank you inadvance

The Tab4 7inch doesint support usb on the go. You can consider the lenovo very good value for money.

Judging by your name you seem to be a fanboyish person.

Anyway, OP, to support sticking a flash drive into a tablet and reading from it the tablet will need to support OTG. If I'm not mistaken there are USB cables that enables this for you. Get something that supports microSD.

I have two tablets - iPad 2 and an Asus MeMO. I haven't touched my iPad since I got the Asus: good battery life, great 7" screen and light weight. The weight is important since you'll be holding it while lying in bed :p It is abit underpowered though.

I used it with my wireless HDD (it has a battery) during loadshedding on Sunday. Watched two full movies with no issue.

I can't specifically recommend this tablet but I can tell you that I chose it over the Galaxy Tab 4 7".

Maybe try get second hand iPad off gumtree or olx.

The only thing I can recommend is not getting a cheap tablet. There are plenty of them knocking about but the experience is much worse. The screen quality is subpar, speed isn't there, software support, build quality, etc. I personally rate iPads higher than other models but the Tab4 is also good.

Thanks for the replies and advice. I will take it all into consideration when making my final choice.

loving my Tab 4 10.1" and from the specs it does support OTG.

I chose it above the Note, S and Pro mainly because of the price and but also because it comes standard with KitKat. Just so you know the T531 is 3G and T535 is LTE.

Although this is very true, if you are just going to watch the occasional movie and browse the net, paying R5-R8k for a tablet is ridiculous.

But the cheaper ones really do not have the best performance for games.

Even for browsing the net and watching movies I wouldn't change my recommendation. Movies and browsing need a good quality screen and quite a fast processor.

I have no issues watching movies with my little Asus. Browsing with Chrome though can be a ball ache :/

Using a Nexus 7, new gen. for exactly this... Awesome HD quality. I also stream supersport on it, no problems. No USB feature, though.
