I know this one might spin out of control easily so please try and keep to the advice side...

Had a situation this morning that made me ponder a bit on how far one should go to assist the law.

Scenario: Double lane, construction vehicle busy on road in left lane. Just before cv is a small road block and officer was busy pulling of taxi.
I'm slowly passing in the righthand lane.

The taxi started moving into the "cone" area and then quickly jumped out of it nearly driving over the officer and pusshed in right behind me. Saw in my rear view mirror youngster behind wheel, lauging and certainly is still a teenager.

The lane left, is blocked by cv and me, with bakkie, in right.

Question:

Do I stand still and block the flow for the officer to catch up or get out of the way?
- He might have a gun
- He might mark my bakkie by the plates for later

If its a taxi, ill do ANYTHING to make them get caught

There is nothing I hate more in the world than the blatant disregard for others some of these drivers have.

so what did you end up doing?

Think of innocent road users who's lives will be put at risk if you did nothing

My car would "suddenly" "break down", forcing me to get out, and start to fiddle under the hood.

+1. And my way of fixing it would be to walk over to the taxi and slap him one :D

Goddamn taxis. I sincerely hate the fukkers. They will block the flow of traffic so that a few fat fcks can get in or out because they can't wait at an area where there is actually space to stop without disrupting traffic.

Do nothing... If the cops don't have the resources available at the scene to affect an arrest of the taxi driver, then they certainly don't have the resources available to come to your rescue if this taxi driver decides to blow your head off with his AK47 for blocking his escape route...

I have to admit, the only taxi violence I know about, is among themselves. Good riddance. Haven't heard of a story when an ordinary road user was gunned down by a taxi driver.

Unfortunately, there are reported incidences of a Taxi driver shooting at another ordinary road user. There was another incident where a police offer was shot while issuing a fine.

These are isolated incidents. I'm not scared a taxi driver is going to shoot me because I gave him the finger. ;)

Hi everyone,

I halted next to the cv and hooted for the officer. Unfortunateley, I think his autopilot kicked in, he was more focussed on getting his partner into the bakkie and chasing the baddie.

It was say 40 seconds when I saw the youngster ducking behind his seat and I imediatley started moving again (Never knows if he wants to make us some Frisco coffee:p).

The taxi speeded past and ducked into some smaller street, and get this !!! He stopped to pick up another passenger, then sped of again!!. Bakkie gave chase but I don't know if they caught the.

Interesting part though is how others reacted about the situation... Black BMW burned a few litres speeding past me a letting me know with his mouth and fingers what he thought of me, Holding Up The Traffic.

If the taxi drivers still a teenager, whats the problem? Would have given him a few smacks! I'm sure some of the passengers gave him a mouth full as well.
