A friend of mine is a secretary/PA. Obviously those are a dime a dozen. She is currently unemployed and adding to her skills may make her more employable. She already completed a course in project management.

What other skills training can she undergo to add to her existing experience and qualifications to increase her chances of employment?

Hard to say without knowing her personality I suggest she does a personality test to see what type of jobs suit her personality and then get a qualification pertaining to that job.

I suggest doing Jordan Peterson's one www.understandmyself.com it's 10USD but worth it IMO

That site looks amazing, thanks.

I would assume that some sort of computer proficiency would be a plus when applying for a secretary/PA position. Boob jobs aside, presentability would be the most important consideration for hiring someone hiring what is essentially a proxy. In other words focus on language skills, people skills and dressing well.

I'm pretty sure the 16 personality thing has been debunked, the company that created it doesn't even use it.

Are you saying that the Myer's and Briggs test that has been studied for more than 50 years, and helped others in fulfilling their dreams and aspirations is debunked?

What I will say about the Myer Briggs system is that it reminds me a lot of astrology in some aspects. People talk about their personality types in the same way they talk about their sun signs. I find it about as impenetrable as astrology, but I guess I might not have studied it enough or something.

The secretarial role has changed drastically over the last 15 years. Personal Assistants / Executive Secretaries are, like Nick pointed out, a proxy. A PA becomes a right hand, and can be supremely integral to the success of the person they are working for. Depending on what field she would like to work in, some technical knowledge (such as law if in a legal field, management of development methodologies if for development house, etc). Some business knowledge would be an added benefit, so anything in business management is good. Project Management is a great start, as those skills can be used in almost any position. She could also sharpen up her skills in sales and proposal writing, as most senior level execs do get heavily involved in those areas too.

The majority of PAs tend to move into other roles in time though as they pick up some really good experience and business understanding. So she needs to look at the bigger picture. She should really be saying where she wants to be in 5 years, and then figure out how to get there. Ambling along without a clear goal is not ideal, no matter her intentions, work ethic or level of ability.

Don't listen to the fools here. Unfortunately, it is rampant on these forums. They get to hide behind a screen, so make stupid comments. It's really more a reflection of their small mindedness and lack of understanding. Don't let it ruffle your feathers.

Was this necessary? People on here are genuinely trying to help. Yes, you get a few poephols, but they are the minority.

The irony.

Ah - so this is what Abzo was banned for.

No. Those posts would not cause the ban hammer to come down. They were just stupid and sexist.

And Abzo didn't post in this thread.
