i'm wanting to get broadband and adsl connection for me @ home.

any preferences and advice?

Nope. Not enough information.
Tell us what you want to do with the broadband internet connection.

send and recieve emails, surf internet, chat here, chat via msn, etc?

384k adsl line, with a 3gb cybersmart isp account... comes to R345 p/m, provided your exchange can handle adsl... then there is modem cost +-R500, and maybe you can do a self installation which will save you another R400.

agreed with the user above. cybersmart and 384 is the cheapest solution. unless yopu download heavy stuff and play online, thats a different price story...

Hmmmm ... So ... your usage per month for that would be about 2GB max.
Sooo ...
- MyWireless 2GB = R500 PM + Buy the modem [http://www.sentech.co.za/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=283&bid]
- IBust 2.5GB = R529 + Buy the modem [http://www.iburst.co.za/default.aspx?link=products_packages]
- Telkom 384 ADSL + Telkom Internet 2GB = R245 [line] + R149 [2gb] + R100 [line again] = R494 + Modem + Install Costs [telkom.co.za]

Telkom ADSL wins. And the range of products that you can purchace to replace the R149 [2gb] part are quite phenominal.

I'd reccommend going the ADSL route if you can get teklom to install this year.
Are you quite proficient at setting up hardware and stuff?

the chances of telkom installing this year???

i'm not sure if i'm proficient at setting up hardware and stuff but have connections!

Depends where you live and what the used up capacity of the exchange near you is.
If your neighbour has ADSL then you could be setup in 4-6 days, if there happens to be a free slot at the DSLAM.

Just get the process rolling. 10219 or 0800 DSL DSL option 1.
I have not listed the cell networks offerings cos I don't know them.
