Hi guys im a recent graduate and I have recently signed a employment contract. Starting next month I will be earning R10000 giv or take. As i'm a young guy I cant wait to ditch "my trusty tazz". My question is how long must I work to even get a chance at finance? What "hot hatch" can i get at around R160000 [thinking it'll b 2nd hand so keep service costs in mind]

Your finance costs on r160k will be over 3k a month. Add insurance on a "hot hatch" at 1500pm for a young driver, and fuel costs, and there goes half your salary.

Stick with the tazz and save up for a decent deposit on a car rather.

I second that. Save up and get a nice deposit. Helps mega with the repayments.:D

Don't rush to get yourself in debt. Just because others drive nice cars doesn't mean you have to be like everyone else.

What did you study and what field are you entering?

Keep on driving that car.

Don't buy anything you don't need, with money you don't really have to impress people you don't really like.

Stick to the Tazz, save the money and use for a deposit on a car further down the line. Try stay out of debt as long as possible.

lol........ Truly speaking I knw id get responses like this. I studied financial management ponder. Ja well I guess a year or 2more wont do me any harm. But jus for interest sake how much is a big deposit? cos I have R30000 at my disposal ryt now and my dad is willing to put the insurance under his name

lol......... i do i do!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but i am young and human. [THINKING WITH MY HEART NOT HEAD:D] But its jus wishful thinking at the end of the day

On a meagre 10000rand salary before tax you want to buy a car with a bank loan of 130grand ! ! ! while you already have a vehicle. WTF You'll end up paying for years and the vehicle's value will only go down while the interest rate will go up next year. Rather invest in a small home. I pray you'll never become SA's finance minister :D

Keep the tazz for about 10 more years. It will still be running smoothly provided you take care of it.

10 000 is a fairly small salary (no offense!). Rather wait a while, believe me having the pressure of constant debt on your mind isn't nearly as easy as it sounds.

You need to factor in that you will not only be paying for your car. Even if you keep living rent free (parents I assume?), you'll have to get your own medical (you can't be on your parents medical if you earn). You'll probably want to get a cellphone, etc.

Worst is you can't buy anything because you have to pay off the car every month.

You studied financial management and the first thing you want to do is blow cash ( you don't have) on a car? Oi. I would think a FM grad would know better lol. :p

No offense man, i know the feeling. I was also there. But just think if you keep your taz and save up how much better off you will be at the end of the day.

Howzit bro.

With your salary, you could always do a 20v RSi conversion to your Tazz:twisted:

Plenty of guys have done them already and those cars are little pocket rockets:D

Its around R15k for the conversion and just source a brake setup from the scrapyard of a higher end Toyota;)

Otherwise a 2003/2004 RunX RSi is around R100k to purchase - and those things run with much bigger cars if driven well.

Otherwise I think you have received the best advice here, stick with the Tazz for a little while:)

And now is the time to waste your cash.....in a few years, you'll have a family and will have to prioritise. Enjoy your youth, buy the car you want and can afford....its part of being young. And don't believe this nonsense of 'saving up' and buying cash or a bigger/better ride.....blowing cash now on nonsense IS part of growing up. The time will come for you to be more responsible with your earnings....rather make mistakes now, being only accountable to yourself as opposed to a wife and kids 10-15 years down the line...

Would second the RunX RSi idea....to find a good one will be a challenge, but the hunt is well within a man's nature....and part of the excitement...! Enjoy...

I agree. Buy what your heart is telling you, you only live once and if it is something you really want then go for it!! Life is there to be lived and enjoyed and if you can afford it then go for it. I would say aybe look at a descent 2nd hand Renault Clio RS. They are quite hot and it is N/A so shouldn't be too heavy on fuel. I understand all the other guys' points as well, but I was also in the same situation as you not too long ago. I went for the car and now I am the happiest person ever.

Obviously you should not go and buy the most expensive car that you can afford, but I think an upgrade from your Tazz should be in order. Go get it and enjoy
