Advise Needed

That's indeed the purpose - it's about contributing fresh information, and not stale, vrot information, as with your case. I see it constantly - people slating plasma based on its previous downfalls, which they have stuck to and still think is the case with new plasmas.

If we were in ±2005 I would have agreed with you that plasma sucks based on poor life, high power consumption, and horrid image retention. These are now things of the past.

Now to get back to the OP who "occasionally games" and is an "avid sports watcher", again I recommend plasma.

Prove me wrong, please do...

Advise needed II

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies and feedback .:) I've gone ahead and bought myself the PS42C450 plasma, and will let you know if I experience any problems with it,

So know I have the TV, HD-PVR and sound system, only thing missing is the media player, so what do you guys think of the Mecer MP3032 media player

Good choice. You will love it!

As for media player. If you can spend a little more, get the Mede8er MED500X at around R1900, or if you're on a budget then get the AC Ryan one, around R400 cheaper. But bear in mind the Mede8er has a longer warranty (2yr vs 1yr of the AC Ryan), better accessories, quieter fan, it has buttons on the unit, and the remote/sensor is better.

You mentioned you were going to get the PS3, that a media player in itself. It can also connect to other media servers such as a one hosted by PC.

Totally agree with image retention.

Everyone says image retention or burn in is no longer an issue - but in the same breathe they give you all these warnings and tips. The manufactures have countless webpages and FAQ on the subject (keep in mind this is now - not 2005) with warnings and tips in the manual.

We can also Google any late model plasma (even the model we're discussing) and image retention and get hits on people with issues (now - not 2005)

In 2007 when I was looking at plasma - everyone told me IR was non-existant with newer panels and only effected 1st generation. I enquired again in 2008 and heard the same thing - but this time I bought. I sold it in 2009 due to ... the image retention.

Even though I heard people tell me it's not a concern, I'd still be worried - especially with anything static.

Contrast is the difference between the brightest white and blackest black, right?

So, it's a accepted LCD has whiter whites than LCD ... what about those models with the same black level?
Wouldn't logic mean contrast is higher?
