Can you also not just ask your investingating office to issue you a letter stating that the investigation is underway and that you are the rightful owner of said vehicle and that the issue has been handed over to the licensing department?
I have that statement , and case nr. The investigating officer also gave me a clearance certificate on my car , that its not stolen. That should be sufficient in a road block?

That's pretty much what an affidavit is for.

Friend of mine had this happen to her. The stack of documents she had to travel with was just ridiculous. Also the length of time to sort it out was insane.

I think since now he has reported it to SAPS and that the car that the VIN and Chassis numbers have been transferred illegally it may appear on the file for the vehicle on checks going through roadblocks.

In essence to fix the issue, he had to report it to SAPS and start an investigation, the roadblock cops would not know if they are stopping his car or the cloned vehicle.
I have all the documentation , also the direct nr of the Investigating Officer that can be contacted?

it is beyond ridiculous... I dont mind carrying all the documentation... as long as I dont get into trouble in a road block

I have ALL the renewal of licenses , logbook , service records , payment records. Car paid up 7 years ago already. Private buy. Car was transfered into my name 10 years ago when I bought it. In January this year this lady registered it into HER name!!! Looks like this is a normal happening in SA
It is not normal happening in SA, I get your frustration but it is definitely not the norm looking at the number of car owners versus the number of cases.

What information did you get on the owner?

Thank you everybody for your advice. I need to travel from Gauteng to Durban next month. And I heard the traffic officers in Natal are quite hectic. I feel more at ease now.

Also had an issue the last few years, not even with vehicle ownership - just with having another guy driving around with a clone of my numberplate.

4 years later and we still get the occasional fine for that vehicle not having a valid license disk (which of course they won't). What's infuriating is that about 8 of the fines have been issued in the smallish town of Atlantis, and the same traffic cops have issued the fines for years. If you see the same car not having a valid disk for 4 years, wouldn't you think something is up?

Anyhow - we have to go to the traffic department every time to get the fines squashed - or pay to have our license plate changed.

On the "new" owner , the traffic dept has her name and surname , ID nr , 3 Contact nrs ( none exists) , Residential address (false) ... The investigating officer cant find anything on her ID nr either

my biggest question is , you need the car papers to transfer a car into your name , the previous owners ID details etc etc etc... How did she get all this right? All this while the car is in my possession?

Sucks man. Shows that with all their useless processes and stuff they still can't manage to keep your personal property or information safe.

Anyways. Nothing new there.

I meant do you have this information? And what do you mean the investigating officer can't find anything on her ID no? Does the number not exist or what, I just cannot imagine someone with the whole SAPS resources at their disposal cannot find anything on an ID number?

It's two ways, either there was an error or something underhand happened.

They can make mistakes like this, but if I want to pay my wife's car's annual registration without the letter they mail I need her ID, signed letter, prefilled forms, etc. Ai.

The ID will more than likely be false.

My guess is eNatis has no verification or link back to HA on the ID Number field.
