Hi guys, i just added an external aerial from WBS and my speeds have shot up.

I am resting the aerial on a table not even pointing at anything. Yesterday i got pings from www.iburst.co.za of 1700-2000 ms. I am now getting 60-70 ms.
It really made a huge difference.
Just some info for you guys.

Regards
Craig

He he thanks Slim - what a difference - it has basically doubled my speed. unreal!!

Yeah, I also use the antenna and it definately makes a HUGE difference.

Halicon i think i am gonna stick it on my head and maybe it will help the damn cellphone signal here - ha ha ha

I hope in 2-3 days to finish tests with new design of the antenna. Projected gain - 15-17dB. My speed now is 950-1000. Ping - 50-70.
Helps with Northcliff area. One can connect to Roodeport or Randburg and not to suffer anymore :-))
At Crownmine speed went from 100 to 900.

Ok is there anything to fix this Northcliff Iburst Tower?
I dont think buying a external aerial will help me because i have full signal 100% and error rate it goes to max of 20% sometimes only...most of it keeps on 2-5%....and get maximum of 800kbps during night....like after 2 oclock in the morning and during a day i have about 200kbps....
Who knows...

I just think its overcrowded, perhaps WBS should look into a second tower in Northcliff

Ah, Craig is happy at last. Craig, u also use your UTD while on the job right? How's the signal on the road then?

Nope not on the job (not mobile) i use it in JHB central and my house in kyalami.
My ping to www.iburst were 1500-2000ms yesterday and then i got the aerial - they are now about 70 - 100 ms so a huge difference.

Makedon,

get yourself an antenna. I live in Linden Ext and presumably connect to Northcliff. I used to have 100% sugnal and crappy speeds. I have an antenna now (which is not even outside, but on my desk) and for the first time this morning I saw speeds of up to 800 kbps on 2 international ftp downloads (daytime speeds today are around 200-300 kbps international which is satisfactory).

So, I suggest you try and see if it makes a difference for you too.

is it safe to assume the antenna boosts your signal so that you can connect to another tower other than northcliff?

Yes!
I'm 1.5km from Northcliff and now permanently conected to Roodeport with excellent speed (>850) and pings (<80). I can connect to Randburg if i turn antenna to this direction. Now i am happy customer :-)))

PS. Antennas will be available next week for all. (I hope . . .)

I can only assume I am not connected to Northciff anymore - the antenna is not pointed in exactly towards Northcliff.

Is there a sure way of finding out which tower I am connected to?

You can phone help desk and ask them to check which tower you connect to they can also tell you how much you download from which tower and the times that you download. the information is all there at their finger tips if they know how to access it ...!

HMMMM..... Antennae, nice.
Example - Fantastic Four part 2 of 2 started at 05:55 finished at 06:45. Fast? No, snails are fast. This is super fast.
