"Afhost does not have true uncapped" I think they do!

Let me first start off by saying I am not a Afihost fan,in fact I am the opposite! I had a afrihost account and the one month they over charged me by double! I then cancelled my account and moved else where.

Now that I have got that out of the way let me get to why I am really posting this :wtf:

I have been reading a lot of sour threads in the last day or 2 about how Afihost are liars and do not have a true uncapped package because after 60GB of data downloaded they going to shape you and/or throttle you and so on and so forth.

I can understand why you guys are upset but at least they have it for you to see,Mweb are heavily shaping accounts from the first KB sent over their network(I know I have one) and from the reviews I have read on both MyBB and another forum that is filled with heavy downloaders the Afrihost gets almost full speeds wile during the day and half the night the Mweb one is still shaped and only gets half the speeds using the same server's to download!

Would you rather have afrihost shape the hell out of the account so you cant get over 60GB a month downloading or would you rather be able to get to your 60GB fast and then get shaped or throttled?!

I would rather be with a ISP that tells the truth and that gives you decent speeds for your first 60GB than a ISP that shapes you so much that you don't get more than 8KBps using 30 News connections that are split between 3 different ports!

I know you must be upset that this was not in the fine print when you signed up but is it really that much of a problem? Are you not getting your moneys worth?

if you are paying R497 for 60GB you are only paying R8.30 a GB and you will still be able to browse and download after that!

I am not saying that Afrihost have done nothing wrong but I am saying that they are the better ISP for allowing you to at least get 6GB :P

Just my 2 cents,I don't want to be hated by the community :P Please don't hold this against me I just feel we are being a bit harsh when other ISP's are not even giving us a limit and just shaping the hell out of you from day one!
 
Started 2.3GB worth of downloads after 7h30 on mweb. Finished with an average speed of 320kB/s. Experiences may differ.
 
Mweb seems okay for me, but what I have noticed is that when using p2p, even if it is not downloading at full speeds, my browsing is almost non-existant, whereas on my old capped telkom account browsing would take precedence over p2p.

The truth? You cannot handle the truth!

Let me tell you my interpretation of what the truth is.

Fact1: They advertised an uncapped service with a FUP of 200GB.
Fact2: People biatched and said if it's 200GB then it's not uncapped and you cannot call it that.
Fact3: They changed their FUP to 100's of GB and saying they will not interrupt your service or whatever.
Fact4: Things go very slow very quickly even for some people that have used very little.
Fact5: They starting doing the avoidance dance and blaming other parties when 4 occurred
Fact6: They finally came clean via a long soppy story that you are actually only getting 30GB before things start going downhill and more so after 60GB, 90GB, 120GB & 150G where you are essentially on dialup

Now if you look at the above you will see their is an enormous discrepancy between Fact1/3 and Fact6? If you cannot see this then you are an idiot.

The truth is this, they advertised 200GB or 100's of GBs initially but NEVER had any intention delivering on what they advertised as seen from their cop-out in Fact6. This in my book does not only constitute false advertising but things like fraud also come to mind. So they came clean but only after they were tired of dancing and changing policies the whole time.
 
Get a life Afrihost you bunch of fraudsters. You should be heavily fined for false advertising and lying. Afrihost is so typically SA.

so he isn't part of Afrihost dude


and thirdly, do you think MWeb would have brought out their uncapped if Afrihost didn't pioneer the R29/GB prices and the R14,50/GB Prices ? I think not - MWeb were losing a lot of customers to Afrihost and had to do *something*



Afrihost aren't fraudsters man, they did a lot for me and you even if we don't use them directly.
 
Why oh why are we still fueling the flamed fires? It's out in the open. People have had their say, ranted, and should by now have got it off their chests. Plans have been made to re-imburse, etc, etc, etc. Just drop it now. Cheeses rice.

No no - you deliver a Ferrari - but after every 300km's the ECU kicks in "Abuse" mode and cuts the power to 10% for the rest of the month :D
 
People forget how new uncapped internet is - things won't work out perfectly. Personally, I'm waiting for tomorrow so I can upgrade my Afrihost account, if there are problems, there are problems. I'll let the ISPs know, no need to throw a huge hissy fit as if your terabyte of data is more important than anyone else's bandwidth. It's the moderate users like me that end up sustaining your sorry ass.
 
Personally I think they should have just re-worded / named the new packages other than "Uncapped" Most mybb users have said they would be prepared to pay X for 30 to 50 gig accounts or up to 100gig accounts. If you use the R29/gig module, 17gig will cost you R493. So in essence R497 for 30gig at full 4mb speed is quite good, anything thereafter is bonus! That said, the majority of us were very excited with the prospect of 100 to 200gig as mentioned. So yes, there is a sour taste in our mouths. But at the end of the day we are still WAY better off than two or three months ago!

Yes it is a problem. People have a reasonable right to expect that the ISP will stick to the contract and act within the agreed bounds. None of the users agreed to or even knew of the 60GB thing. It was not what was agreed on in the contract.

Imagine this: You go to a car dealership & buy a car. Contract signed. Then the salesman walks up to you and says "By the way, after 100km half the cyclinders on the car you just bought will be deactivated". People will explode & rightly so.

AH is scating on very thin ice legally and I think they know it.

Whether they got their money's worth is not relevant. ISPs can't pull extra catches out of their hats whenever it suits them. And if they do people must cry foul else other ISPs will try the same BS.

If I bought the Ferrari for R50000 instead of R5 00000 I wouldn't mind so much.
