Afrihost aren't fraudsters man, they did a lot for me and you even if we don't use them directly.

For sure man but just because i do something nice for somebody today does not mean i can go kick them in the teeth tomorrow and get away with it.

The problem as i see it is afrihost was untested and they just suckered loads of people into signing with them before announcing this 30gb BS story.
 
What I would like to know, is how do uncapped offerings work overseas? From bits I've heard they also have usage policies etc.

I personally think all the ISPs need to do is say it is uncapped, but not neccesarily full speed. That way there is no confusion. Even if you only get 1kb/s, it is still uncapped, albeit ridiculous.

As to the Ferrari metaphor, couldn't they rather make it a bike? :D
 
Observation - a company might afford two adsl accounts and lines.

One an uncapped adsl account with static IP (384k) for email only.

Another one, a "fast" capped adsl account for general browsing etc. As soon as the cap is up, people can't browse or download. Might just motivate them to be more careful with what they do with the company's bandwidth.

Ya but gian did say those who are unhappy can cancel at any time.

I get what you guys are saying, I just think we should all ease into this.

uncapped in SA for a good price is pretty new - after the market stabalises the ISPs will compete with "who has the best quality line" - as for now, I would hate to see ISPs scrap the whole uncapped idea because of too many complaints....seriously

I Would hate to see Arihost say "Well fine then, as the product is causing too much flaming / rumours / bad image, we are removing the product", because then Mweb has no competition, and then we have another monopoly again
 
The problem keep was not the complaints, the problem was afrihost throttling people without anyone knowing why and it took some serious threads to get anything out of them.

Had they come and started a thread and put a notice on their site that the network was degraded and they would be implementing throttling or something like that, people would not be so upset. Honesty and Communication, not deciding one day to throttle people and not mention it. I am no marketing genius but i doubt it takes a genius to see that people were going to freak out about it. I hear your point about afrihost but this good wholesome isp went from good to over night purely because they decided they could just do what they want when they want and break their own T and C.

Anyways i hope they recover and learn to be a bit more upfront about stuff.
