Afrihost 1MB bundle

Hi All

I have successfully signed up for my first ADSL account for home. I have opted for the 1MB uncapped line from Afrihost.

If anyone has any feedback regarding this specific line, please let me know.

Using it at the mo. Still waiting fot Telkom to had over to AH. BF3 pings are good no lag so far. Large file downloads are around 350-365mb / hour.

Hoping Adsl pricing will come down so i can bump up to 2mb line.

That's a ton of reading - I just want to make sure that I haven't fallen victim to clever marketing.

I am new to ADSL, so without sugar-coating anything...
What sort of download speeds are associated with Afrihost's 1MB line?
What sort of browsing speeds are associated with Afrihost's 1MB line?
At which point do I get throttled?
Is there an interface somewhere on Clientzone where I can check the speeds I am getting?
How do I know if the area I live in is known for good/bad ADSL speeds. Does area even matter?

I went from 2mb to 1mb as I need cut expenses. Going back to 2mb.

I just find that in my area the contention ratio on the entry level line has always been a problem and the middle speed (2mb) has always shown far better performance.

How do you find the downloads? What is the min/max download speed you see?

How much of a pain is to change between the 1MB and 2MB bundles?

Downloads are not too good on 1MB but I'm doing 100GB a month (Youtube, updates, application downloads, PSN+ Game downloads, etc). On 2MB everything seemed much better. I also have upto 6 devices connected and the slower packages always showed lsg

Changing between packages is not a pain, Afrihost are very helpful.

My use for ADSL is much smaller, it's just me and I mainly need to connect to VPN to wotrk from home and for the odd download.

I won't be using it for online gaming, extra devices won't be using it, etc etc.

I'm hoping that 1MB is sufficient for a download here and there. What do you think?
