Afrihost airmobile (legacy sim) battery draining

Change APN to MyMTN or whatever and test if it makes a difference. I'm still seeing problems, but testing again today. I'm simply doing 2 hours on myMTN APN and then 2 hours on Afrihost APN (with no actul phone usage) and then looking at the results. So far from testing yesterday, my battery was still draining when using Afrihost APN. But giving it another shot today.
 
Glad I came accross this thread.
Also on the legacy afrihost package and noticed a big battery drain.
Though it was my device, but the timeline confirms that it is not.

I used aeroplane mode last night and whole night lost 4% battery from 10pm until 7am.

Problem is the Afrihost SIM is my data SIM when changing to MTN I don't have data 🤣
 
It looks like I am no longer getting a CGNAT IP anymore on my legacy airmobile /mtn sim either. That will definitely be the cause of the battery drain issues everyone is having.

Bots and port scanners on the Internet keep sending traffic to you which keeps the radio active which causes the radio to never sleep.

With CGNAT nothing on the public Internet can send packets to your device.

The public ip/range you see doesn't matter, you can try ping your phones public ip from your PC and then turn flight mode on and try again. If it works then suddenly stops when flight mode is on then you know it's public.

Seems to be the case on my side as well
 
Yip, still an issue. Tested 2 hours on myMTN APN or whatever it is, lost 1% battery in 2 hours. Currently 1 hour 20 minutes into testing using the Afrihost APN and already lost 6% battery, so no use continuing test. Did not use phone to make sure I don't drain the battery further with active use.

Same, I use it for data also, but even if you are connected to wifi as long as that APN is active, you will have drain.
 
Tested and I am on a public IP.
Changed to MTN APN and battery drain has stopped and returned to regular battery usage.

Yep got a public one.

Tested from my router and can ping the IP, turned on aeroplane mode and can't ping it
 
Better do the same here. Was thinking my device was just getting old!!
 
But I tested yesterday and today, unless I'm doing something wrong, when I ping the IP I just get "request timed out". But my battery is draining:

It depends it seems.

Toggle airplane mode a few times depends or what ip I got.
