I have iBurst atm and I'm gonn change ISPs soonish because iBurst is honestly the worst ISP in the country, well them and neotel.

I was just wondering if the latency in wow throgh afrihost is good.

I have around 700ms (min) on iBurst, is it any lower on Afrihost?

The Afrihost accounts are repackaged IS satellite-based accounts, as far as I know, so you should expect about 650ms from them to EU if I'm not mistaken. I'd strongly recommend an unshaped account for international gaming.
From JHB to UK:
SAIX Shaped: ~350ms
SAIX Unshaped: ~200ms
MTN Business: ~200ms
IS Fibre: ~190ms
IS Satellite: ~650ms

Edit: apparently they are IS fiber accounts, my bad! If that's the case, Afrihost FTW!! =)

Oh F@ck :( Satellite??? No wonder they're selling this crap for R29. I knew something was fishy with that offer. Selling satellite connections in the age of SEACOM, some people really have nerves.

Afrihost: Give us fibre or you're on the loser street faster than you can imagine!

The Afrihost accounts run over SAT-3 fibre. The latencies are as good as if not slightly better than SAIX.

From their website:

All international bandwidth is brought to you by fibre optic links on the undersea SAT3 cable and NOT via Satellite.

FAIL

Lol, the only bad thing people say about Afrihost is if they haven't got a clue :p

Afrihost FTMFW !!

Near the bottom of their page it says this:

Anyway I get around 550ms on my shaped Afrihost account in Dalaran! I haven't tried raiding with them yet...but that's mostly because I'm hardly playing WoW these days

As others have mentioned:

All Afrihost ADSL Broadband package bandwidth is supplied using the Internet Solutions shaped service for maximum stability and reliability. Internet Solutions is recognised as the leading provider of Internet bandwidth and connectivity in South Africa.

All international bandwidth is brought to you by fibre optic links on the undersea SAT3 cable and NOT via Satellite.

Best to find out from the ISP themselves, before making assumptions. :)

This is pinging a Battle.Net Warcraft III server in Europe:

Pinging 80.91.249.69 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 80.91.249.69: bytes=32 time=387ms TTL=234
Reply from 80.91.249.69: bytes=32 time=379ms TTL=234

Using an Afrihost ADSL account. :)

ah, I apologise for my mistake! I only made the assumption because it made more sense that R29/GB would be for IS Satellite. But wow, kudos to Afrihost then if these accounts are running on IS's Fiber international link after all =) that's awesome, i'm gonna get myself a few gigs to test, too =)

Are these those 1Gig Blended + 9Gig local accounts from IS?

do they have unshaped versions of this cable bandwidth at afrihost?

are the IS fibre accounts faster than saix unshaped?
if so where can i look at pricing?

Depends what you're connecting to (peering arrangements), but generally I'd say Yes - SAIX unshaped latency is about 20ms higher than it should be.

Pricing? Just check Afrihost's deal - that's IS fiber...
