This year alone there have been numorous accounts for the afrihost APN going down for mobile data. Sometimes for a brief period and sometimes for days at a time.

It's very frustrating when you rely on your phone everyday for mobile data, google maps, emails and hotspots. The worst part about it is that there is no way to know until you have left wifi. Many times it's been the case where I leave home replying on google maps only to realise that the apn is down.

One way around it is to buy data on MTN and switch the their apn, problem is you need mobile data to buy data so it's a bit of a catch 22. Added to this are the extra costs of always having to buy data on MTN, while you have all the useless paid for data sitting on the afrihost network.

Over two years now and this problem still persists.

Why can t afrihost get this right. Is it still worth using them for a sim card and first line of connect to the cellular networks, surly at this point it makes sense to just go direct to MTN

Hi

We had an issue this morning with a system that controls MTN Mobile data.

Can you please enable Aeroplane mode for a few seconds and then switch it off to start a new session.

Thanks, I did that a few times with no luck, eventually I had to ask someone to buy me MTN data so that I could work.

It's working now but it's very frustrating, it's also an on going problem, this must be the 6th time this year. Adding that up to an average of 4GB data on MTN each time it's R340 extra each time, that almost what I pay for all my data on Afrihost so it almost doubles the price of cellular connectivity for the month.

There is a hard cost and a massive loss of productivity cost each time this happens.

Apologies for the issues.

And… guess what everyone, the Afrihost apn is down again,

Hi

Service has been restored. We picked up an issue on our side that was impacting clients and we applied a fix to restore the remaining clients that were affected. Apologies for the issues experienced.

Have the same issues with afrihost, connection unreliable at times, switching to mtn apn and the voila, everything is fine.
Never had this issue with vox, switched to afrihost since it was just a bit cheaper.....Regret!
@PeterRabbit I use my yellobucks to buy data on the mtnmomo app, R1 for 300MB for 1 hour in emergencies

So on top the Afrihost fees we all have to continually pay extra for data on MTN, be a voucher or cash it’s still spending.

It’s been like this for at least two years now. So weak
