Afrihost APN on their Cell C fixed wireless offer

Just a quick question regarding the Cell C offering from Afrihost.

I signed up someone I know to the offering and when I wanted to change the APN to afrihost, the APN read internet and was greyed out so I couldn't change it.

The internet connection worked perfect,but I queried afrihost support about it just in case and I was told that it should be fine.
Now afrihost is constantly sending him messages that he must change his APN to afrihost.

The router he is using is the Huawei B315.

Anyone else experience anything similiar or can give me further info as there is no Afrihost support till Monday and I just want to set his mind at ease.
 
I’m using the internet apn on mine (but not using the supplied router).

Note that it works on 4g/lte only. It will not work if the modem/router is getting a 3g signal.
 
Another thing, I had tried the afrihost apn when I first received it but it did not work..
 
Thanks for the info.Receiving another unit hopefully by Monday and will do some testing on my own too.
 
Hi, has anyone experiencing dropping signals every hour or so. Mine has been doing this since day one and im so pissed
 
I just received my Router today and can only connect to a limited number of websites.. Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and a few other sites occasionally work. I've tried setting my DNS to Google servers, enabling Data Roaming, tried the following APN's: afrihost, internet, lte.broadband.is.

I'm using the Huawei B618 router.

Even the Afrihost website doesn't open. I can go to mybb.co.za [works but gets redirected] mybroadband.co.za which doesn't work.

Any idea what the issue could be? One of my friends in the same area is having the exact issue and Afrihost support is of zero help.

I have experiencing exactly the same issue as mh348. What feedback did you get from Afrihost or did they resolve your problem yet. According to them there's a problem with the towers in my area (Klerksdorp) not communicate correctly with the Huawei devices. Where you from? I have done test on both the B618 and B315 routes and the issue remains.

Quick tip: I have insert the sim in to and old iPhone 5s an enable the hotspot and everything works perfectly then if you need to get online. I am still trying to get another brand of router to check if the problem resolves.

Thanks for the TIP, I haven't tried another device. Do you know if the sim will work with a non-lte modem? as I only have a normal 3g router to test with.

It won’t work on 3g. It needs lte.

It requires a LTE/4g capable device according to me. You can only use data when it is on the 4G/LTE connection according to my experience

That is correct.

I ordered with the B315 though and tested both internet and afrihost apn and both works.
Speedtest gives low results, but when doing a download from Nvidia for drivers the download maxed out.

Were you having the same issue? and are you also in Klerksdorp?

The last update I received on Monday from Afrihost was, that Cell C technician can see there is problem with the towers. The towers do not communicated correctly with Huawei devices. They are now waiting for another specialist guys to come and assist as the current technician do not know how to fix the issue.

So we still need to wait. I lucky got a refund for this month on my account.
 
I had to add a new APN, could not edit the original(default) one

Both APN's worked for me though.

I am also having the same issue in Klerksdorp, what beats me is the ignorance from Afrihost, they just playing dodging games even though they know about the problem @AfriGuy
