Well my eyes must be deceiving me because your data only prices are R100 more across the line as far as Business DSL is concerned on your website.

There's an option to switch on/off shaping for those that don't want employees using torrents on the companies network.

Obviously as a home user you will just switch this option off.

Would leaving this enabled have any impact on Citrix VPN and TeamViewer traffic ?
Not that I have noticed anything amiss, just curious.

I have to say that on day 2 of the Business unshaped, and it has been perfect... not a single minute of anything not working.
Just why I did not consider this earlier is beyond me, just relieved and pleased I did.

It shouldn't, as both of these services are seen as realtime.
 
Hi Afriguy,

Been hearing good things about Afrihost, thought I would give it a try. Signed up for the free 1Gb capped account to test, and my download speed on speedtest.net is 340Kbps. This is 60-70Kbps lower than I am used to. If I sign up for the business uncapped 4mbps product, will my download speeds be 400kbps or is 340Kpbs the norm?

I am certain my line / exchange is of appropriate quality because I currently get that speed from my existing ISP.

Weird? Capped should be full speed? Are you sure there are no downloads/updates in the background?

I'm more worried that his line doesn't seem to have TCP over overheads.

A 4Meg account, on a 4Meg line should give you around 3.4-3.6 due to TCP overheads.

4Megs should be impossible unless you're running your 4Meg account on a 6Meg line.

400 KB/s is 3.2Mbps which is a perfectly reasonable expectation from a business account. My 4Mbps business account used to average 3.45Mbps.
 
I'm currently connected to the exchange which is about 3KM away from me. There are 2 MSANs in the area. The closest one is about 600m away from me. Who do I talk to to get moved there? My line is with AH obviously.

My reason asking is last time I used the ticket system it took 3 follow ups from me for them just to change my sync speed (still isn't what I asked for actually, but what the hell) - and this isn't a "general" ADSL query.
 
I want to give serious props to Kyle from your support department. Acknowledged and dealt with my problem, found the fault on your side.....

I am very impressed and happy with Afrihost.

Ironically however, an few minutes later Mpho from your support department sent me an email to say "there is nothing wrong with your account, contact telkom for a port reset".... made me smile even more :P
 
I'm having strange problems tonight. Speedtests seem full 8Mb/s (int) however certain sites just dont load. Reddit is taking up to 30 seconds to load a page currently, if at all. And Xbox Music will stream fine for 30 minutes, and then cut out. Neither of those need serious bandwidth.
 
This is the speed today, 4MB Uncapped: (International test)

Last Result:
Download Speed: 2168 kbps (271 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 520 kbps (65 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 156 ms

Not getting what I am paying for, this is really pathetic, been the same story since December with no solution.

Most sites as loading slowly, Windows updates slow. Wont be able to do more tests today as I am out of the office until this evening.
