Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

A "glitch" is a quirky little oversight that slipped into a system and causes minor problems. What you have on your hands here is a major ***** up (pardon my French).

I fully understand this is frustrating you, but please understand that we really are trying our best to get this fixed up as soon as we can.
As mentioned in my initial post to you - if you have a pending query with us please PM me the details.

The iOS8 update seemed to pick up around 7pm last night when it was released and traffic has steadily increased since the. We're still seeing a steady stream of traffic downloading the update and we're also expecting this to consume a similar traffic stream over the next couple of days, judging by past experience.

1) 7pm is when the iOS update was officially released by Apple. So it didn't "pick up" around then, that's when it started.
2) Since you claim to have "past experience", I'm pretty sure you could've anticipated this ahead of time. It's not like the iOS update was a big secret. I managed to get my iOS updated at a friend's house on an AH account before you throttled the hell out of him because I knew it was available at 7pm thanks to some light reading on well known tech websites. You can't tell me none of your staff knew about this.

We're rolling out some updates and changes in the next few hours that is going to hopefully improve our network management (aside from general changes we had already planned) and we're hoping to see improvement shortly.

So for now, I just want to assure everyone that we are absolutely aware of the issues and we are monitoring very closely to provide the very best overall experience while Apple does their thing.

"Hopefully improve"? Would you be satisfied if the mechanic I mentioned in my earlier post told you he'd "hopefully" get your car running again?

Simply put, I don't think anyone expected the demand to be as big as it was/ is.
No throttling is being done.

Again: Yet other ISPs were fine...

As to no throttling being done, I think you can drop that line as everyone has proven to you that they are. Or are you calling your clients liars?

You know a few months ago, there was supposedly a IPC issue in the South region, Afrihost reps mentioned that users affected would be sorted out (not too sure what that implied), but all I can say is there are still issues, and we continue to pay a premium for a service which is far from what is advertised. Afrihost should own up, compensate users for lack of service and move on.

We are reporting increased DSL demand throughout the country, possibly as a result of new Apple iOS updates released late last night. We will be optimising our network and making changes where applicable to provide the best possible internet experience to clients while traffic demand remains high. We apologise to affected clients and would like to assure them that we will continue to monitor and work towards improving their overall experience.
So you're telling me that the MTN cellphone network can't handle an iOS update? Oh please. Only 20% of the global market share in mobile devices is iOS, and you don't see the network crumbling when there's an Android update (70%). That is one hell of a terrible network then. The update is 1GB. Why didn't MTN just cache the update locally, say in JHB, CT and DBN, then allow downloads from those CDNs?

IPC upgrades and tweaks are constantly being run across our network - there's no general issue here :)
There's massive demand across the country, not only with us - JINX and CINX graphing also show this.

Globally, there are massive traffic spikes. Have a look at this CINX and JINX graphs have spiked up since iOS 8 was released :(

Again - not everyone is being affected by the slower speeds.

Again <insert car/mechanic analogy here>, saying this doesn't excuse the fact that some users are being affected with little to no idea as to when they will get the service they are paying for.

Is there a problem with NNTP? Getting 0KB/s - nothing will download at all.

Looks like NNTP traffic is being blocked. It runs 100% fine when I test with another ISP. I am paying for uncapped, unshaped 10m business account...not what we are getting now. I also tested with the account from critical care they gave me to test with for issues. Getting 0KB/s on that as well.

+1, my NNTP is also completely dead, 0 KB/s. Now there will be missing parts for sure :D.

I can agree with you there, I don't think I was trying to imply that :)
It's not great, I fully admit that. Our team are hard at working making the best of the situation.

I'm sure we'll have a solution on this soon! Keep checking back on our Noticeboard for further feedback.
Sorry about the slow speeds :(

4mb line syncing at 6mb, pathetic!!!

Sorry to burst your knight in shining pixels bubble Afriguy, but I'm not longer an Afrihost client because of all the subterfuge the company uses with its clients; so you won't be able to help me personally with anything.

If you're confused as to why I'm so vocal on this thread, it's because I still have friends who sadly use your products so every now and then I experience AH's crap service via proxy and hear the support calls they have with your staff.

Since last week thursday my account has been shaped. I have been told it is certainly not the case.
It is not OK for your Critical Care department to tell me "We'll have to run additional tests on this once the iOS 8 updates are not a potential cause for network congestion."

It is not OK for them to tell me "You are not being throttled - it is simply a confirmed problem with MTN - we are working on it" - then Afriguy comes on the Forum and denies it exists.

It is not OK for them to tell me "We didn't include info about the international problems we had picked up before this, as MTN Business confirmed that a problem was rectified with one of our Level 3 peers between the US & the UK, that was seemingly causing problems with our international access."

It is not OK for them to not return messages.

It is not OK for Afrihost to lie like this.

It is OBVIOUS that I am being intentionally throttled - and your company is flat out lying about it.

Sorry to hear, best of luck going forward :(
My offer still stands to look into any issues/ delays you saw previously. We're always wanting to improve where we can.
