The past ten days I have been mostly stuck with extremely slow Internet.
I spent more time on the phone with Afrihost than trying to do my work.

They reset or recreate the ports and then I reboot my router and then everything is fine....... for about an hour, then we repeat the same thing.

I don't know how many times over the past ten days we repeated this. They logged calls with Telkom but that doesn't seem to help anything because they are forever waiting for feedback.

If somebody from Afrihost want to check this look at ticket number RU-153-72871 in the client zone.

I cannot run my business because Afrihost cannot deliver the service I have to pay them to deliver.

Not Afrihost's fault, your exchange is congested and Telkom are the only ones capable of fixing it.

Hi pietpetoors! Really sorry to hear about your ongoing connection issues and trouble getting this resolved. :( I'm sure we can get to the bottom of your problem together.

Right off the bat and judging by your initial speedtest result, latency in the 1000's often indicates exchange congestion. That being said, and echoing Johnatan56's post, this could also possibly be a line fault. The bottom line is that we'll need to run a few more tests, but I'm more than happy to assist. :)

Please drop me a PM with your account details.

It's sad when one actually hopes one's line is cut/run over/destroyed rather than having congestion as it's quicker/easier to fix :(

I do not know much about ADSL, if it is congestion, will it help if you reset the ports? Each time they reset the ports I get like 3.7 Mbps but it just slows down again. With my little knowledge on the subject I would think the congestion won't go away when they reset the port.

If it is congestion it is amazing that nobody from Afrihost during the past ten days said anything about that being a possible cause.

Resetting your port a hundred times a day isn't a viable option. How long does it usually take for the speed to slow down?

If it is your exchange, it makes no difference who your ISP is. There's nothing they can do about it. Do you stay in Langebaan, above CT? That place has miniscule DSL and VDSL coverage according to Telkom's coverage map. No fibre plans by anyone I'm aware of, and neighbouring areas don't have much in the way of ADSL, VDSL or fibre either.

You might be better off getting a mobile connection from a provider that has LTE there.

Telkom came to fix it and replaced the port. Line was perfect for two days now for the past three days I am back on below 0.5 Mbps download.

Try a different ISP account (even a free one) just as a test.

However looking at that trace...your exchange is up $#% creek without a paddle.

Interesting observation:
If my connection is terribly slow like this the speedtest (Ookla driven) on MyBroadband always time out and nether finish the test.
But if I do it directly on SpeedTest.net (also Ookla driven) it completes the test. So how accurate are the average ISP results on MyBroadband really?

Thanks, will try that next time it slows down. Called Afrihost so it will be fine for the next hour.

This is what the same line looks like after one calls Afrihost. Why is it that it takes so long from Afrihost (2) to adsl.co.za (3 and 4) ?

Download this app to see if you have packetloss http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/
, make sure you run on cable and not WIFI, turn off devices connecting to your router including wifi connected stuff and stop all downloads when testing...post the result on here. Ask either Afriman, AfriGuy, Afrifella or Afrigenie to assist you :)
