Does anyone know if Afrihost's capped accounts (specifically the Gold packages) are truly unshaped like they state they are? I am currently using their uncapped 4mb which is heavily shaped but want to move over to one of their capped accounts.

Anyone currently using the Gold Account? with a 10mb line? Feedback please?

Yeah right and MWEB offers the best connectivity, marketing and reality are two different things...

Ask for a test account and use this link to confirm: http://measurementlab.net/measurement-lab-tools (If they are unwilling, you know they are bulls....)

Take into account you do not know what the contention ratios are, as local ISP’s do not believe in transparency.

Would suggest WebAfrica unshapped, at least you have some level of support.

We use gold at work. They use to be ok, but lately(last 2 weeks) they are shocking. We have a 4mb line and some downloads from sites like blackberry go at 10k and then fail half way, same with imageshack. On our web africa account they go at 100k for blackberry and 400k for imageshack. So I think they must be shaping or having some serious issues.

Similar question for me. After 29GB, they put me into the throttled pool with my uncapped account yesterday. Last month they made a mistake and put me in after 20GB. I had to call them to undo that little error.

Now I am seriously considering capped. I hardly go over 30GB a month, so for slightly less money than i'm paying now, I can get unshaped with 3x the bandwidth i currently use at full line speed. Seems a no brainer.

Is Afrihost capped data the cheapest around? I can't seem to find cheaper looking at MWEB, OpenWeb and Axxess.

Well just on my R29 GIG package I get 38Kb/s after 8pm internationally from the Blackberry Site, 450Kb/s on my WA account, local though.

Just reading ur other post now :P

im on the 15gb power plan with a 10mb line. seems unshaped to me. i get between 400kbps and 650kbps on torrents and 850kbps on http no matter what time of the day it is.
no problems with browsing, everything is super-fast!

My Afrihost capped account on a 4Mb line that I use at home has been slow lately. I used to be able to watch videos on youtube with minimal to no lag or buffering but now it is a different story. International downloads are also a lot slower. Our MWEB uncapped account at work is also slower than usual but its hard to tell because 25 people use one account on the network. Wonder what's up?
