But you are not in cape town where the Issues have been serious for well over a year now, it was only when JHB got hit that Afrihost admitted it even had an issue. Look back at the people who have left and you will see most are in the South, not JHB.

+1.5

Yea tell the guy that seems to only use Lync. I pay the same as he does as a private consumer while he is paying from what it seems a business consumer.
As I look at this thread the Afripeeps are robotic in their responses. like water off a ducks back.
It's at such a point where they actually just reply because its their job.

I might be missing the point here (intentionally), but aren't things naturally supposed to be a bit slow down there in Slaapstad? Like being throttled or low on IPC is the new kind of hip ek se, bru... The trend might only catch-on later up norf.

I'll stop right here :p

nope.
I'm a 'private consumer' as you so aptly put it. A private consumer with a WFH company policy. Prefer to stay out of traffic.

Well we wouldn't have minded so much if you lot hadn't eaten our carrier pigeons, so now with the Post Office being defunct we had to switch to this internet thing just to be able to continue taunting you poor blokes stuck up there. :)

Well said! And 'poor' is an understatement...

Sorry if our responses have come across as robotic, it's not the intention :)
We are conveying as much info as possible, but if we only get one of two bits a day then that's all we can really say.

Make that +40.4. Its weekend and like expected afrihost is down the drain again

I am now getting a maximum streaming rate of 45KBs again this evening but I think it proves my theory and could save Afrihost a lot of headaches.

They need to call in an Electrician, not a network Engineer, and have a look at the Support Desk wiring.
Somehow the Router that terminates the South IPC was wired into the Lighting circuit, so when the last person leaves for the weekend, and turns out the lights, they kill Cape Town connectivity at the same time.......

Shh, next you know it will be Eskom and the loadshedding's fault ;)

That said, youtube isn't happy tonight, meh.

Nope...

UPDATE
09 July 2015
Our network team has improved network performance during peak periods through changes to our network management devices.

Again... Had to switch accounts due to huge packet loss... despite ping claiming 12. Other account works 100%.

At least you have fixed the ping I guess.....

sigh.

/sigh

I see the "changes to your network management devices" are still losing packets and [-]throttling[/-] optimising international throughput down South.

As predicted, no change to the status quo really until "In the next few days we will be adding additional capacity" as called for at the end of last year and repetitively since February this year.

/sigh

Aaaand then we will probably have swings and roundabouts (soon, soon, soon, soon) again as performance dips and peaks while your guys tweak our 'optimal internet experience(TM)' "In the weeks that follow we will be making further improvements to our network to ensure optimal service to all clients".

Jazz hands.

Switched to Vox's sweet 100GB deal... still keeping a 4+4 GB AH account around when and if we get "the best internet ever"....

Cant go on like this anymore.

Just like most others in this thread, I've been having issues with Afrihost for the past few weeks. I also decided to try out Vox's deal recently and just like that, I had fast and stable internet again.

Until yesterday that is. My VDSL line is with Afrihost and I originally had an uncapped account with them, later dropping it to 150GB (75 + 75) capped. I get home to find my connection was dead, so restart router, starts working again. Slow as it's ever been (this was on Vox) so I swap over to the AH account I still have active and it's even worse, not just slow, but timeouts galore.

Logged onto Clientzone to see if they've sorted their "Fix My Line" option (hasn't been working for months), they haven't. I noticed that my router was saying I was syncing at 2meg (it's a 40meg line, which it's been running at since December), I did the line test and it turned out to be the case.

Logged a call at 8pm, they got back to me over 4 hours later telling me that Telkom has downgraded my line to 2meg completely inexplicably and that they are looking into it.

As of posting this, I am yet to hear back from them about it.

Just started a stream on Afrihost and was getting 110KBs.
Hit the stop button, switched the router to Telkom and Restarted.
Now streaming at 1.08MBs almost 10 times faster.
Same stream same server same line same router.
Typical Weekend in Cape Town...................

And for all these moths Afrihost was trying to blame their lack of capacity on Telkom Congestion.

This really sucks.

This makes me question what checks and controls AH have in place to ensure this cannot ever happen? Must customers constantly be checking up their line speed in case the ISP "inexplicably" fiddles with their configuration?

Somewhere in this mess the service provider needs to remember they are charging people hard earned money for this service. You should consider insisting on full compensation and a detailed report.
